Need Help Determining What Color Couch to Put in New Living Room

I'm a first time homeowner and need help figuring out what color couch/sectional to put in my main living room of my new house. I was thinking about repainting the walls, but I actually like the two colors together. However, I just am having a hard time figuring out what color would work well with both colors. I know black goes with pretty much everything but I am trying to make the living space a bit colorful. Thanks so much for your advice.

I think a tawny gold color would look nice. But paint is relatively cheap. Furniture less so. Be sure thats really the scheme you want before investing in it.

I would suggest a very light neutral, and add pillows etc for color, if you are keeping the existing colors. If you decide to change colors, then maybe post back and ask again. Looks like a nice sized room. I see vents in the ceiling, and also along the floor. Are the ones on the floor still used? Congratulations on your new home.

I would use the space off the kitchen like a family room with the T.V there . The other space like a nice LR for adult conversation and why would you want a brown sofa when there is already so much brown in the space.With 2 kids I would be looking at getting rid of the carpet and getting wood floors and I for sure would not have T.V. in both spaces. I hate TV in my LR use that nice big space for some seating , not a sectional, that is conducive conversationand I would probably add a fireplace in that large space for a focal point.

You have two nice features; the fireplace and the brick wall, plus a nice bit of light. Painting those dark blocks outside white will enhance the brightness and look cleaner overall. Then paint your walls that taupe/greige of the mortar on the brick wall. I think that color will work well with the fireplace too. Try two 3-seat sofas and two swivel chairs in a "U" in the middle of the room. The swivel chairs will close the bottom of the "U" and can turn to the fireplace or the piano. Be careful not to buy big puffy oversized seating. Your rug may work fine. Replace it last. I don't see any electrical outlets for lamps, but you need some. A chandelier on a dimmer will work for your ambient lighting, but you need task and accent lamps too. Shop for a piece of art 75% as wide as the piano to go 5" above it.

Beverly, I like the look you created. However, I just got the wall painted. It is a high ceiling so I cannot repaint myself. It is sand color (Wise Owl by Kelly Moore). I am hoping for the grey sofa, sand walls and brown floors to be the neutral colors that will not stand out. Only the blush/pink accents to pop. I did the opposite in the other room with brown floor, grey walls and brown sofa. and teal color for pop. Will light grey sofa achieve this goal better than dark grey?

I like your proposed arrangement. Looks like you could add a t.v. on a swivel mount with a small console underneath to the right of the fireplace. As a general rule, the rug under the dining table should be 4 feet wider and 4 feet longer than the table, so it seems an 8x10 would best suit the table when fully extended.

I don't know why but I remembered this saying by somebody:

"When in doubt, go with chartreuse" )))

Cream would work..if leather-tan would look nice..

If you like colors of autumn-chances are you'll continue to like them..look for inspiration pictures with similar colors..can be very helpful to figure out the pallette. Even if you repaint-chances are you ll still go for something warm and enveloping..so whatever you pick in furniture would still work against different background. If you're not sure that's another thing. But most people have the general direction towards which they lean..preference for warmer colors(or rather shades) vs cooler..cleaner vs muddier..you can like all of them of course but say use the ones you lean to less as accents.

If you’re keeping the current wall color then I can picture going very light (whiteish) in your furniture with pillows and rugs to tie in the colors. It looks like you have great sun coming in. Great looking space.
