Need symmetry at kitchen doorway opening!
Comments (18)I don't see any problem with opening the oven doors. That's an obtuse angle; in one house, I had a built in oven perpendicular to a wall. However, accessing the oven is going to be a little awkward. Or would be for me since I tend to load and unload an oven from the side. Newer ovens with the easy slide racks would make it a lot easier to load and unload from the front, though. So, likely not a problem in this kitchen....See MoreI got rid of a doorway and now need help with room re-design
Comments (3)If it were me I would make both areas double function, meaning, I would have a comfortable dining capacity in both areas, but I would also have a place to just sit and relax in both areas, either enjoying the view out the window or the warmth of the fireplace and the conviviality of the kitchen. I’d also want a table near the kitchen for those times I didn’t want to haul my lunch or breakfast or evening soup all the way across the house. I’m a big fan of off-center dining areas utilising banquettes and benches, so that is what I would think about doing in your dining area: A high-backed dining bench on the wall to the left of the window, fronted by your table and chairs, and then make the rest of the room a place to soak up the sun (your pooch has already figure it out) and to read when guests aren’t there for lunch. I’d give the living area near the kitchen a clubby feel, with a deep swivel chair positioned at the fireplace, and a table at a height comfortable for dining while sitting in the cornered sofa set. If you can find a table on wheels might even be better. You definitely need a serving trolley if you are keeping the dining table at the opposite end of the house from the kitchen....See MoreKitchen design dilemma. Need to accomodate multiple doorways.
Comments (10)A few key measurements are missing -- all doors/doorways/windows/walls should have measurement labels (with trim included in the door/doorway/window measurements). Post an updated version with all the measurements -and- a sketch of the entire floor the Kitchen is on. Here's an excerpt from the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First!" thread: Please post a fully-measured layout of the space under consideration and a sketch of the entire floor. By "fully-measured", we mean a layout with the widths of each wall/window/door/doorway and the distances between each wall/window/door/doorway labeled. See a sample below. If something cannot be moved or changed, label it precisely on your layout (see post in sample) and tell us why it cannot be moved/changed -- we may have some ideas for you. The sketch of the entire floor lets us see how the Kitchen relates to the rest of the home. It doesn't have to be to-scale, but it should accurately show how the rooms relate to each other and should include all interior & exterior doors. In addition, it will help us see how traffic flows in, around, and through the Kitchen. Label the front entry and family entry. The family entry is usually a garage or side entry, but it might not be. It's helpful to know which door you use to bring in groceries. Regardless of how you draw it up (by hand, computer, etc.), please be sure all measurements are labeled. Other questions... Tell us about you and your family and how you plan to use your Kitchen. All-adults? Empty Nesters? Children (now or in the future)? Aging in place? What appliances (& their sizes) do you plan to have? Where are you flexible? Can walls/windows/doors/doorways change (move, change size, add, delete)? Do you have a basement under the Kitchen or are you on a slab?...See MoreCrazy idea? Comments (3)It looks like you already have a kitchen table and seating with the white chairs in the foreground. I would rather see the sink as a corner sink under those two corner windows so you have something to look at other than a wall. And then I would move the refrigerator and pantry to the wall where you currently have the sink. You want the refrigerator to be not too far from the kitchen table for ease of grabbing things that go directly to the table such as condiments, prepared salads, drinks/ice, etc. You can keep a small portion of counter heigh cabinets between the fridge and the table so you have someplace to put things down when they come out of the fridge. It will also help it to feel more open than having a giant fridge right next to the kitchen table. I agree with others that this plan is not working at all right now. If you are planning to purchase your cabinets at a retailer, most of them will do free kitchen design....See MoreVirginia Mary
