10 foot ceilings....what to do??
Comments (7)We sort of had some of the same issues. I recommend making sure you know what you want your kitchen cabinet design to look like and then focus on any ceiling treatment. BUT, I say that bc I'm a symmetry nut, it makes me crazy when a coffered ceiling (or any other type) is "off" from the kitchen cabinet layout. For example, what if you have this amazing hood that looks fanatastic, but bc of the ceiling treatment, you end up with beams not centered or laid "off" from the hood layout. It's just a pet peeve of mine :) And, you don't want to get stuck in a rut with your kitchen cabinet layout bc of a ceiling treatment! I ended up not doing any treatment to my kitchen ceiling (other than crown around the room) and put in a header/doorway from the kitchen family room. I did that bc I just couldn't get the beams to extend from the FR to the K and still align nicely with the cabinet layout. And, I knew it would make me insane every morning when I woke up :) Plus, I loved the kitchen the KD came up with and the ceiling treatment seemed to just take away from it and look cluttered as cefreeman noted above....See MoreAre 8 foot doors too high for a ranch house with 10 foot ceilings?
Comments (8)I feel there's no generic or a correct answer; it all depends on the layout whether you are referring to doors leading to bedrooms, office, kitchen or pantry, or bathrooms, or hallways etc. etc. An 8' door may look freakishly tall in one setting and may look quite normal or elegant in another be it 9', 10' or 12' ceilings. The door width will also determine it's visual impact. Our 8' interior doors are 36" glass doors, opposite each other leading to the laundry and walk in pantry in a section that has 9' ceiling; why? because the huge adjoinning family room has 12' ceilings with 8' glass wall of sliders each with 30" transom windows above, it ties in nicely. What I'm trying to say is, draw it out or visualize the impact of what you would see from any particular point or location in your home....See MoreIs a 10 foot shower too long?
Comments (27)I just read through all the comments above and it seems that everyone is giving you good advice on the best size for a one person shower. But you asked about a 2-person shower. My shower is 7 by 3.5 with the shower head on the far, short wall and the door opening on the opposite end of one of the long walls, which reduces that particular wall to 54 inches plus the opening (hand held is on this short wall). I just stood in the shower next to the short wall opposite the other short wall that has the shower head. Nope. I would not want to shower with shower heads on opposite walls. Too squishy. Having said that, ours was planned as a two person shower and it works quite well since we have the extra hand held on a side wall. So, if you have your heart set on a two person shower and want the shower heads on opposite walls, your proposed size might be right. I would suggest you block out an area of 10 x 4 and go through the motions of showering with your wife and see how it all works. I have no comment on whether or not a large shower is cold. We live in a warm climate and don't have a door on our shower and have never been cold. So you will need to take that into consideration when you read my comments. As far a cleaning, the last person to shower gets to squeegee and the far end of the shower never gets wet so it does need periodic dusting. And drainage is no problem. Even with two shower heads going....See More3-Tier Closet rods with 9 foot ceiling versus 10 foot ceiling?
Comments (5)Just went and did that Mark. My shortest items are my blazers/jackets...which are pretty small and they are still 30ish inches with my hangers. Shirts are a few inches longer than that. Could probably squeeze in 3 rods, but it would look really cramped, rather than a nice space. My husbands shirts at 38 inches would really be snug. Maybe 2 rods of shirts plus 1 of folded in half jeans...but again, would look cramped. Seems that 10 foot really is the minimum to make this work, even in a hers closet....See Morecpartist
