Help, new home owner...What king of grass do i have
Comments (2)Front and back look like centipede grass and the 3rd picture looks like nutsedge or nut grass. So it seems centipede may be your yard grass (unless it is just there but your real grass hasn't become noticeable yet, since many lawns have more than one type of grass) but you'll probably want to get rid of the nutsedge, as many consider it a weed....See MoreNo idea what to do with kitchen in new house

Comments (22)This is a nice kitchen. If you had started your posting with "very clean, all appliances same color, side by side refr, good walkpaths, island efficiency, stone (or stone-look) countertops, newer floor" you would have described many peoples' dream kitchen. You've paid a lot for this kitchen already; save the big bucks just in case the economy stays sour. Don't let the dream of "perfect" paralyze you. You can power-decorate at a less hectic time of your life. Your own stuff in the room and the baby stuff will personalize it all you need right now, including a high chair. A near-red and a gray and a lavender have been proposed by other readers for a wall color; each will give a very different feeling to the room and will give you the feeling that its yours and not the old owner's kitchen. If you decide to paint, do this ASAP so you can get a feeling for the effect on the cupboards. Use paint that is low VOC but let someone else do it; stay out of the house for days afterward and air it out well before the baby comes. And when you use cleaning products as you move in, don't use the nasty ones. Stick to ammonia and vinegar and bleach and soap. You don't want to ask yourself "Where was my mind?" in years to come. I've read that an accent color needs to be used at least 5 times in order to be an accent color. A new fabric valence over the sink and more of same fabric on your table or on cushions for chairs and stools is really all you need--perhaps go for a print or design that encompasses all the the colors in the room plus new paint color but emphasizes one favorite. Am wondering about something with yellow and pink together, or yellow and brick red. If you see an affordable fixture for the ceiling that would compliment the new table and other decorative items, give yourself permission, but don't rush and don't spend a lot unless it's an item you will still love in thirty years. Unless you get rich this week, don't worry about the hardware on cupboards. By the way, if the proposed dinette table has a glass top, you may regret it later on, unless this is a future patio piece. Get a practical table that will look clean when washed from the top with a dishrag in one hand and that doesn't make you nervous about kid use. The current table in photo isn't bad, it's just got one more color that isn't helping coordinate things; paint here would also be useful in unifying a new look. (What if the old owner's dinette green had been repeated in a few other places besides the valence, such as on the valence, the clock, the stools, and the door trim? You'd still have the pinkish cabinets and the yellowish floor, but you'd have one color that was more dominant, even if hunter green is not particularly trendy right now. Hmmm.... switch that to a semigloss medium gray and if the fabrics were same gray but with strong contrasting colors of reds and yellows and near-pinks, imagine how things would feel. More fashionable?) To play down the floor, keep your eyes peeled for an affordable, colorful but classy rug for under the table and a washable one for the sink area. The table area one should be good camouflage for spilled stuff. (We had an old oriental rug under our dining table while kids were growing up. We could eat an entire meal of Chinese takeout with rice and noodles and no one would know from 5 feet away. It was wonderful, even if threadbare.)...See Moreletsdoit1202
