Moss rose budding but not blooming?

Hi all i am new to the forumn. Had this i believe is a moss rose that i bought from a shop. When i got it about 2 mths ago, it had little flowers opened and colorful. But about a week or so after all the flowers dried off and never came back. I cut off some of the stems to start a new pot that i place outside my room window that has afternoon sun for a few hours. The newly planted pot is growing very nicely but 1 problem i had with it is i see a lot of budding flowers but it had been nearly 3 weeks now and non of the buds bloom. They are all tightly closed. Any idea what can i do to encourage the flower buds to open up?

OK, before we take this any further we need to identify your plant, since there are at least two plants commonly called moss rose, to know where you are located and to know if you are growing this thing indoors or out. Any chance of pictures? And further information?

If your moss rose is Portulaca grandiflora it needs to be outside in hot, dry conditions in full sun.

I actually put up a photo and it showed up after i post. Now the photo is gone....anyway i live singapore in a high rise building. So i put this plant outside of my window on the window sill so i guess i am growing it outdoor. I will submit the photo again. Hopefully it will show up. Thks

Most likely it was from cold temps while the bud was forming. Some roses can be affected if it goes below 50 degrees while the bloom is forming. I have a bunch of these stunted blooms.

Thanks everyone! I trimmed all the dead canes off my roses since they were all leafing out. Except for my moss roses, most of my roses lost a large majority of their canes, due to our lack of snow and I didn't do any winter protection. The parts of the canes that did survive had leaves piled up at the base thanks to mother nature. I hope we do not get any more negative temperatures! In the next 10 days we are supposed to drop into the high 20s overnight, otherwise during the day were staying in the 40s, 50s, and 60s with a few days in the 70s. Seems like everything is eager to come back from winter. When I was cleaning up in the garden I noticed some of my clematis poking their heads up already.

Thank you both for your responses. I doubt it is over feeding because that hasn't happened the last four years or so. After someone else suggested Proliferation (Thank You, Cori Ann!) I did a bit of reading pointing to temps as a possible cause, and we have had some colder weather. Seems downright odd to be having rose problems in January, but we are above our annual rainfall for 2016 in SoCal, and they are pushing out the blooms. Thank you both so much for your reassuring words. Back to whacking back tomorrow!

Diane is right. According to the Dewar website, "Bud & Bloom" is a collection, but they only identify them by color. If you still have the tag, look closely for either another name, or a nonsense string of syllables that would be the variety's registered code. Then we can tell you more.

OK. That's Portulaca grandiflora. It needs full sun for as many hours as possible and dry conditions with a free draining soil.

Thanks for the reply. I only water the plant when it is showing signs of needing water. Usually only once a week. The soil seems to drain well too. It receives about 4 to 5 hrs of full afternoon sun daily. So will the flower buds ever open up? Some smaller flower buds just shrunk after a while without opening. The bigger buds just stays the same for weeks without opening. Is there anything else i can do to encourage the buds to open up?

My plant is behaving the same colour at too and the buds do not open up . I too live in Singapore ... is there Any update to this problem pls ? Any cure ?

I have the same problem. My portulacas also just receive the afternoon sun, no morning sun at all because our door and window faces west. I am wondering if it affects the budding and blooming
