Is there a reason you can't use an adjustable fixture, such as https://www.homedepot.com/p/Halo-RA-4-in-White-Integrated-LED-Recessed-Ceiling-Light-Fixture-Adjustable-Gimbal-Retrofit-Trim-90-CRI-3000K-Soft-White-RA406930WHR/204732277 ? The angle will make a difference, notably that the light won't hit the floor beneath the fixture, but some distance away -- and perhaps where you don't want it. (Also, lights at different heights will result in different beam spreads.) Any angle will create more glare than a flat ceiling would; you'll have to decide what your tolerance for that is.

I'm not opposed to a fixture better suited to a sloped ceiling, however, I'm not a fan of the adjustable "eyeball" fixture look where the adjustment extends beyond the trim.

However, these types of fixtures are ~3x the cost of the Cree CR4T, and also require (I believe) a special sloped housing that is more expensive. I'm already in need of ultra-shallow housings for this install (they have to be < 4" tall) to fit the depth of the ceiling beam behind the ceiling drywall, which is going to be even harder to find and be much more expensive (I assume).

My understanding is that these other options also won't have the light quality of the Cree.

Interested in hearing other opinions and options. If the adjustable eyeball trims are my only cost effective option to get light pointed straight down, any recommendations on options that would provide comparable light output and quality to the Cree?

I’m not a fan of the eyeball lights, either. We just did regular recessed lights. We don’t have any issues with hot spots or wonky lighting.

Seems like a lot of lights. I have 5 downlights illuminating the walls in a 20x20 room. Also I'm not a fan of downlights for general illumination. Rooms look at their best when lighting is layered: Ceiling lights, table lights, accents lights.

I prefer the downlights be positioned to illuminate the walls and art. That would require the lights have the ability to be adjusted so that they can be focused on the art.

In this newer picture, the lights illuminate the area above the cabinet where I will place art or decor.

You can try out the look and placement with some $10 4" battery-operated LEDs from the local big box store. Stick up a few with removable Command adhesive and see how they look. Reuse the battery lights in closets or kitchen cabinets after you've made your decision.

You are getting slopped ceiling cans correct? Also you can get a trim that has about a 30 degree angle and the bulb remains inside the can so there is no exterior overhang really. Buy Regular can, buy light bulbs in various beam spreads, especially when you are either trying to penetrate light down to a specific point.

In my situation, I'm not able to have the downlights illuminate the walls. I'd like to minimize the use of floor lamps or table lamps, which is why I'd prefer to have too much light from the recessed lights than too little.

Ceiling height is ~9', recessed lights may not be pointed at the ground (if I go with regular lights in the sloped ceiling), and if I go with a 4" downlight, the beam pattern is tighter and its lower wattage than the 5-6" downlight options.

Instead of 16 downlights in the 21' x 20' area, I am considering the option of 12 downlights + 2-3 pendant lights over the peninsula. I will also have a few feet worth of under cabinet lighting.

By "sloped ceiling cans", do you mean sloped ceiling recessed lighting housings? If so, I am most likely not getting those, as I can't find any of those that are ultra-shallow (< 4" tall) to fit the space behind the ceiling drywall.

Do you have any links to examples of the cans and bulbs you are recommending?

We have what you are likely referring to as “eyeball” lights. To be honest they don’t bother me at all. I like being able to adjust them. Yeah, I guess if you stare at them they aren’t the prettiest, but I am not often looking at the ceiling. I wouldn't want lights that shone straight down on a sloped ceiling in the kitchen, they won’t shine on what you need/want lit. If there are lower profile ones great, but we don’t even notice these on a daily basis.
