North East Fl. roses for Nancy and others moving.
Comments (3)Yeah -in my younger, more energetic days I would buy bags of amendments, cut up all twigs, mulch leaves, bury fish and anything else I could do to improve the soil.A few months later it was no different than the test plots I left alone. The roses did about the same either place. Don't mean to be a drag but truth is without the smaller clay molecules to bind things to its every bit as productive if not more so just to use time release.Check Malcolm Manners site.I believe thats all they do at FSC. plus Epsom salt[which I use]....See MoreConsidering a move to North Carolina. Comments (26)Property taxes can be high here in NC too. I think Gaston county has a lot of crime. Charlotte is wonderful, that's where we go to do decent shopping/dining. Charlotte is definitely where it's at as far as I am concerned. Wilmington is nice but too close to coast, hurricanes. Personally I like Asheville a lot. Lots of art and culture there including hippies. I don't have a clue about the schools in any of the areas I mentioned. I live in Hickory, NC, small city with the traffic of a large city, yuk. Winston Salem is also nice. Greensboro is near and High Point although I don't know what High Point has to offer. Carla...See MoreMoving to North Carolina
Comments (6)In the Charlotte area you will be among tons of upstate New Yorkers. They started moving here with corporations back in the '70s. Some of the South Charlotte area, depending upon microclimates and elevations is zone 8a. Much is 7b and you can be assured of almost two full growing seasons and year round flowers. Often, we originally from the Northeast are dismayed by not being able to grow some of our favorites here because it's not cold long enough for good dormancy. You'll be happy with just how much more you can grow here vs. your zone....See MoreBluebirds local and migrant are moving north
Comments (6)Hi Tammy I have seen a flock of 30 to 40 bluebirds its rare but does happen the bluebird is very popular in New England and some towns run big trails. Martins are due back anytime after April 15th i watch the PMCA migration Map when residents in CT report scouts I drive down to the sites and look for them There migration is set by age. The oldest return first (to all sites) the 5-7 year old birds followed by younger birds weekly. A martin can fly from MD to CT in one day They have placed little transmitters on the back of martins and track there moments for the entire season. This is very wise information and takes all the guess work out of there migration. About 40% of my bluebirds winter here many that do perish I manage to many to feed them. May finally try to feed Martins. A friend on Cape Cod last year was feeding her Martins and tapped the entire experience for others to enjoy It can be done! Ray...See Morepopmama (Colorado, USDA z5)
