Finding reference for 1930 Spanish Revival Bungalo in No. Cal
Comments (10)Let me start by saying all I got for Christmas last year was books. And that's all I wanted for Christmas. See, we just got a 1925 Mission Revival home last year and I am obsessed. I agree with the above suggestions, particularly Bungalow Kitchens by Jane Powell. Here are the other books I have and their strong points. Red Tile Style (Arrol Gellner/Douglas Keister) - This one has a total of maybe ten kitchen photos. Mostly exterior shots and some of details like lighting and tile. Very accessible. George Washington Smith (Patricia Gebhard) - this focuses on particular (grand) homes by Smith and has a few kitchen photos. Lots of exteriors and courtyard/patio shots, with floor plans. Santa Barbara Style (Kathryn Mason/James Chen) Grand vintage homes and a few newer examples. Not many kitchen shots, but lots of exteriors and some gardens, formal rooms, courtyards. Casa California (Elizabeth McMillan/MelbaLevick) -Not much in the way of kitchens.,but lots of architectural detail shots. A few of the homes are of recent vintage, but most are '20s. Mediterranean Domestic Architecture in the United States (Marc Appleton) - this is a reprint of vintage photos of grander homes. I don't see any kitchens, but it is interesting to see the period decoration and the floor plans. Black and White. California Colonial (Elizabeth McMillan) - focuses mostly on architectural details, specifically tilework, entries, wrought-iron, fenestration. There are also good examples of doors, light fixtures, interior goodies like niches and fireplaces. There is even some info on furnishings,....See MoreHelp a (Clueless) Guy Decorate his Small 1930s Living Room
Comments (81)unfortunately the room is too narrow to have the sofa facing the fireplace. I'm pretty much stuck with that being there. Great thoughts about the coffee table, I keep trying to love the trunk but its just not happening. Oh well it was only $20 so maybe its Scouts new toy box. Interesting point about the rug - admittedly I'm not too polished on the rules of design so I end up having to learn along the way. I think I'll try a bigger rug. Also I'm going to hold off on the TV. Maybe once I finish the kitchen reno and use the room more otherwise I'm fine with just going to the basement which I'm also decorating slowly but surely. Its becoming my favorite room in the house and has another massive fireplace which makes it so warm and cozy. I'll post some pics and get everyone kind help AFTER I vacuum the couch (yellow dog & brown microfiber - UGH!!).......See MoreI finally did it ... I fired my contractor.
Comments (9)Wow, you take patience and understanding to a new level when you say you were waiting for your contractor to get out of jail for stealing from another client so he could complete yours. I would have fired him on the spot and NEVER let him back in my house. Just MHO but leaving room in a template for mudding doesn't sound good. Everything that could effect the fit of the countertop against the wall should always be done before the template is made. That said, and assuming the countertop has already been cut and is ready for installation, you need to hire someone to finish what he was supposed to do before the countertops go in. I would ask some of the stone people here to tell you what the better option is now. You definitely have to have those cabinets leveled first. Are you sure the contractor paid the for the soapstone, fabrication and installation already? If not you need to find out from them what their arrangement with him was and how much you owe them. I would call, ask them for a list of what he was supposed to do, find out about the finances, and take it from there. You have not paid him in full I assume? Comments (81)artemis78, I found your link in my "working" list of threads needing repair, and I submitted it on 2/24. You're right, it's still missing all the photos. :-( Modern California Bungalow Kitchen artemis Oct 2011 Thank you for posting, because I also rechecked the last group of threads I submitted around the same time...and found a few more that are still missing photos and/or text. I've sent a new list to Tamara, to re-send to the tech team folks. I'll keep an eye on the threads I resent today. I appreciate the heads up!...See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
