My previous home had thermofoil and I never had any problems with it. But, there are many grades of thermofoil and I've heard of the peeling issues with the economy lines. Are they going to replace the drawer fronts or just repair the foil? I don't know how many drawers and doors are involved but before I'd give them the $650 I'd call a local cabinet maker and have them give you an estimate for wood doors and drawer fronts to match the frames of the cabinet. Cabinet makers I've dealt with in the past have access to the termofoil products, so ask them to also estimate the cost of doors and drawer fronts with thermofoil (from a reputable brand). Using a cabinet maker doesn't mean custom. Your cabinets are probably standard sizes so he could just order and install what you're needing. I wouldn't consider replacing the cabinets as an option if the cabinet frames are in good condition. It's going to cost much more to try to replace the frame itself and most likely the granite and backsplash will be damaged. I just read on your xpost where the contractor applied thermofoil on exposed edges and only installed doors and drawer fronts. Just how many doors/drawers do you have? I found where Prestige carries your cabinet fronts (they're located in Fla.) and the warranty is 3 years. You may want to call them for more info regarding the problems you're seeing. I am going to jump in here with the minority and say that if the downdraft venting system is installed correctly, it works. My gas stove is installed in the peninsula with a pop-up downdraft. It works and it works well. We replaced a Thermador with an integrated pop up downdraft with a Dacor range and a separate Dacor popup downdraft. The original installer used the ducting from the Thermador for the Dacor. He did not reinstall it correctly and it didn't work properly. As it turned out, the old duct work was too small for the new pop up downdraft. It took us some time to find someone who really knew how to install the duct work, ie. size, length, etc. I am very happy to not have a hood in the middle of my room. I took down the cabinets hanging from the ceiling to open up the area. I did not want to put something back up there. It was the best solution for us without having to spend more than we wanted.

We are planning to relocate the existing kitchen as part of a large scale remodel/addition and DH and I are concerned about kitchen sink drain line placement in regards to the main septic drain located in the basement. This photo shows (in the green) circle where the main septic drain is located and where the proposed kitchen will be. The kitchen area is currently a carport but will be dug out and crawlspaced so flooring joists can run either direction. The existing house's joists run east to west. Our kitchen sink options are, in order of preference: 1) South wall centered approximately on the 16' wall. 2) West wall centered 3) Island area centered With 1/4" drop per foot, the goal would be to get the drain line to the rear exterior wall as quickly as possible so the drain line falls along the wall instead of falling across the main walking area of the basement. My rough guesstimate has a fall of 18" from sink to drain line. Is that doable? Is it trouble waiting to happen, especially with two turns? Is their a pump type system that we could use to move the water/waste along? Am I crazy for even being concerned? TIA!
