home office/den finally done! pics..
Comments (28)Thanks teeda..my attitude is a daily conscious choice. Unfortunately, I have to play with the hand I was dealt. I count my blessings every morning and accept that so many worse things can happen then a divorce. It's sad though, he is the love of my life and I thought we had a really strong marriage. So now, I put a lot of energy into this house..projects, like the office/den...make me happy and keep my mind occupied. I just bought the finishing touch for the room. A darling little chandelier to replace the can light. It's being installed on tuesday. Can't wait to see it!...See MoreI need so much help with my tiny dining room!
Comments (11)I agree with Prairiedawnpam in that I think you need to step back, forget chairs for a moment (that's not what she said, but it's coming) and look at the bigger picture, the rooms around the dining room, whether or not you're keeping the carpet, where your whole color pallet will come from (outside of a stripe in one dining chair), whether or not you want your living/dining area and surroundings to the one 'period' look, or classical, traditional, some 'theme' (not a great idea), and what you just plain love, forgetting about 'style' altogether. Don't rush this, you're lucky enough to have a relatively blank slate and not a lot to 'fit in' to the space that you brought with you. Look at magazines, talk to people, take time to go through dedicated stores and see what really grabs you over time... and don't just rush to buy the first thing you see that's 'red', or 'square', etc. Know where you want to go with it all to some extent - your place will look better, pulled together, and your money will go a lot farther....See MoreHelp with my tiny galley kitchen layout?
Comments (9)Thanks so much, everyone! These are great ideas. I'm definitely not opposed to a 24-inch sink—that's the size of the sink in my current (rental) apartment and it suits me just fine. But would it be possible to squeeze a trash pull-out into a 24-inch cabinet? I'm less sure about a 24-inch range because I do cook a lot, and I tend to use the full width of my 30-inch oven for roasting big sheetpans of vegetables and things like that. I hadn't considered a built-in oven and cooktop because of the extra expense, but it would make a lot of sense given how narrow the space is. benjesbride, here's the full layout of the apartment: The entrance to the kitchen was originally a doorjam that was less than 30-inches wide, but we had the contractor take the doorjam out and raise the height of the entrance, which has already made a big visual difference, even though it's only widened the entrance by about six inches. I had thought about removing that wall next to the sink entirely, to open up the kitchen to the dining area a bit more, but I decided it might be a little odd to enter the apartment and immediately be confronted by a dishwasher....See MoreOffice/den/guest room: Can I have it all?
Comments (19)You really need to find a home for all the books unless you use them all , all the time. Right now that room is no where I would like to sleep. IMO cover the fireplace with the murphy bed in fact you can even get one that incorporates an office . IMO this could be an office and a guest room and forget the den idea, Ilove books but IMO most info can now be found online and in a small space actual bookcases take up too much room this murphy allows some book storage a desk for you to work on and nice place for guests to sleep . Honestly in this small space I think that is all I would do. Or a sleeper and a desk maybe use a closet for other storage guests really require very small closet space...See MoreHansen
