Do I have to re-tile when replacing shower surround?

Rachel Ford

We are building a new home with a 4x5x10 shower. We have a regular shower head, a ceiling rain head, and 2 wall jets. We we’re planning to do tile to the ceiling & include the ceiling, as well as glass to the ceiling for a future steam shower.

The builder doesn’t do frameless shower enclosures to a 10’ ceiling so we’d have to get it done after we close. We had planned to upgrade the tile, but will I have to replace the tile when switching to a frameless surround? I’m wondering if I should just put in standard tile & not pay for an upgrade if it’ll have to be ripped out anyway when they change the regular shower glass over to frameless.

Also, do we need a fan of some sort in the ceiling to avoid mold, or will the steam just condense and drip back down onto the shower pan?

HELP!
