I recently bought new chair by an old American company Sam Moore. It was made in North Carolina. I did have to wait about six weeks to get it after I had chosen the fabric and wood trim. I paid about $1000.00 for it. Hope this is helpful.

If you are looking for quality, I would avoid imported if possible. Hooker is a bit on the lower end and I wouldn't expect it to hold up to regular use. Look for manufacturers that offer a lifetime warranty on the frame and suspension - usually a clue it is made well. 8-way hand tied springs are the gold standard, and sofas that feature that usually have quality construction throughout the piece. Some manufacturers do good sinuous springs, but some do not, so it's a little more iffy. I'm partial to Lee Industries and The MT Company since that’s what I sell, but also love Carolina Custom Leather for leather pieces. A seat cushion with innersprings will hold up the best. Avoid down unless you are okay with flipping and fluffing daily.

I've personally had a Lee Industries sofa for 15 years that has been through a ton of moves and it is still great! All I've had to do is replace the slipcover. I also got new cushion cores, though I didn't need them, I just wanted to switch to something firmer.

Thank you all for you advice and help! I have looked into most if not all of those manufactures. I haven't been able to find a style I like that meet the dimensions I am looking for or at least I think I am looking for. I already have a sofa that has a 19 inch seat height and 40 inch back height (I had the back raised from 35 inches). From what I have seen from design advice online the seat heights of the sofa and arm chair should be the same and the back heights can differ and vice versus..is that wrong?

I recently did find a chair by Lee Industries that has similar dimension to the Hooker chair I was interested in. I thought I looked at all the Lee Industry chair option but I must have over looked this one.

Question now is will having a sofa and chair with different dimensions look bad and out of place. My sofa overall height is 40 inches and the seat height is 19 inches and arm height is 23 inches. The Lee chair I am looking at has a over all height is 37 inches and the seat height is 19 inches and the arm height is 37 inches. Would the two pieces of furniture look like they compliment each other or at least not out of place?

Also for future reference would someone be able to rank robin Bruce, younger, Hooker, Lexington, Rowe, bernhart, century, Bassett, Norwalk, Lee, bradington young in terms of quality. It seems like the quality of many manufacturers has gone down and I would be interested in an updated list.

I think those dimensions would look fine - it's close enough to the height and I don't think you'll notice the 3" difference. Whether they compliment eachother is a combination of the dimensions and the styles of both of the pieces so I can't say for sure without knowing what both the pieces look like.

I'm not familiar with all of the lines you've listed above, and some of these have the same levels of construction so there isn't necessarily a linear arrangement from best to worst. This is my own opinion based on what I've heard from consumers, I'm sure others have other experineces and would rank these differently. Century would probably be at the top and they are also the most expensive. Then I would do Lee. After those two I like Younger for pieces that use sinuous springs instead of 8-way hand tied. Then I would put, in no particular order, Norwalk, Rowe, Bassett. I would put Hooker at the end. I'm not sure where Lexington and Bradington Young fit since I'm not too familiar with them.

I'll be book marking this page. I appreciate the question and the input from the other posters. In addition to those mentioned above, I will offer that Wesley Hall also has a good reputation for quality. I'd venture to add that Huntington House may be in the running as well.

Here is the picture of the chair by Lee and the couch that I already have. I also included a of the wood finish and fabric swatch that we liked the most. This was the only chair that met all our dimension criteria (aside from 3” short back) and a kind of more modern style (really wanted something with more leg showing to give a more open and airy feel as opposed to having another piece of furniture with short legs making it close to the ground like the couch) and has quality construction. I would love any design input and advice! :)

is anyone familiar with Hickory sofas and their quality?

Hi, Hu. From what I have read Hickory Chair and Hickory White both have good reputations for quality. However, I know there have been a lot of changes with furniture makers over the years. For example, some that were once great have been bought out and the quality has suffered as a result. So, it's prudent to educate yourself about what comprises a quality sofa and ask the makers in question about the specifics of construction. Lauren Jacobsen and The Stated Home give good advice on what to look for.

How are King Hickory and CR Laine re quality. I assume they are mid range.

Lexington verus Hooker. Who is higher quality?

That's like asking who has the best burger, McDonald's or Burger King? You've skipped all the steak houses nearby .......

I found a dresser and nightstand I like and the Same item is sold at pottery barn and at Wayfair, said made by Hooker. Obviously they are both buying from overseas. And when I say the same I mean the stock photos are identical however The descriptions are different one says solid wood and one says veneer. and it’s about $200 more at wayfair

You cannot go wrong with hooker if you have kids that jump up and down on your furniture or dogs that get on your furniture once you leave. I am very handy and believe that everything can be fixed.

The glass of nightstand l bought 6months ago broken with a sound of it’s own.
When I rolled up the glass pieces,I saw wood veneers was wrapped.The glass shattered more and more over the course of two days.
