Please, show us your pics of plants in very porous 'Premium' mix:
Comments (42)Ummm, I have no idea where to begin everyone ! Breathe taking to say the least! Josh, first off, I hope you are feeling much better my good friend! Please stop by again when you are up to it. I would love to see your beautiful Orchid here in your premium mix. It's so lovely Josh! Laura! Amazing and at this time of the year! Color is just what the Doctor oredered for Mom and for me! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful plants. You know, have you noticed that Plumeria do FANTASTIC in the grittty mix?! Your colors and vigor attest to that. Mine did fantastic for the first time too but then the mice came by and killed them:-( Laura, do I LOVE the yellow ones. They look like they are very fragrant. Look at the size of your Brugs! I tell you, the sun in your area must be so much more enjoyed by your plants than mine. I could only wish the sun was as strong as yours in summer to force lots of blooms on my DR's.. Guess what? I think I am going to get some flowers on my Cactus Orchid very soon for the first time!!! I will post if so. They are growing in a version of the 5.1.1 mix, I think Josh's version which I love too! I miss the summer and those pool days. They will be here before we know it! Thanks again so much for sharing:-) Jodi!!!! Hello again! I REALYY appreciate all your support and very kind words. You have been such an inspiration to me in all you say and do. Your ability to grow nice plants has encouarged me in many ways. Your words of common sense and explanations means so much. Thanks again OUR dear friend! Now as for holding cameras, that is another issue.lol I can't wait to see some of your plants too:-) I hear you about an odd winter. It was 55 today here and teh mosquitos were out near my pond! I wonder if the frogs will be out early? I need to uncover my pond soon. As long as the ground does not warm beyond the 40's, everything should stay in rest stage! My main concern would be watering my plants so they don't dehydrate. The shallowed bushes I have need to be watered since I have no snow cover. You should see how FAST the ground dries out. I am concerned about dried out plants. So, I pass the hose to all my plants and do they drink:-) Linda! Wowowowoa. I never saw such interesting pots before. I love them and as Josh said, that clown is quite scary.lol That verticlaly challanged is awesome!! Where do I get one of those? I can imagine all my succulents in that thing taking up no room at all. I love your set-up and everything about it. Nice plants growing in the gritty mix I must say! Thank you so much.:-) Al, Mom would like to visit sometime for a free tour, and so would I! Mike:-)...See MoreShow us your porch plants!
Comments (16)Yup, next year I'm gonna say, "Show us your porch plants (except Jasdip)!" LOL And next year I'll ask Nicole to instruct me on growing morning glories. I love them, but never succeed with them. Very exotic, Jodi! Bigack, do you keep your coleus pinched? I should try growing some. Lavon, your porch is a garden!...See MoreJanuary 2018 "show us some of your plants" please this month!
Comments (220)Lizardhandz I am glad to hear that someone is using similar (in this case I would say 'the same' :) mix! I hope you'll have excellent result with it. I grow all succulents in it, and even few smaller potted tropical plants. I would use it for big ones too but big pots get heavy with so much grit. Color of your mix is very nice too - it depends on color of chicken grit a lot. What I bought in past, was white. Latest bag has some grayish speckles to it - it comes from different supplier I was told. Your plant has beautiful color. It is supposedly xPachysedsedum of uncertain origin, with one of the parents possibly S. craigii (responsible for color of leaves). It is suppose to grow several stems from the base, so I wonder if yours may be inflorescence? But it looks more like leaves, so maybe not. In case it blooms, pls. post photos! And do so even if it doesn't bloom :)...See MoreShow us your RARE plant!
Comments (51)See the little guy in the image left of my usename - the one with the sword and strange outfit? He's the main character in a rather famous book called "The Little Prince" by Antoine De Saint Exupery. It's a story of interplanetary travel by a character that to this day remains something of an enigma. The book is a quick read - 1 or 2 reading sessions is all that's needed. I've read it somewhere near 20 times, and have found at least 1 new life lesson each time. It's my favorite book - ever. What is this object? ^^^ Anyway, to get to the point - the Little Prince's home is a planet so small he only has to move his chair to see the sunset as many times as he prefers on any given day. It has no name - only a numerical designation - planet B612. He has a couple of tiny active volcanoes he regularly cleans the ash out of, and a couple that are dormant he just worries will one day become active. Among the few common flowers on his planet is one that's very pretty, and he fights to keep the baobab trees under control lest they take over the entire planet. His planet ^^^ She is vain, the special flower, and has thorns. She has convinced him that she is unique, one of a kind in all the universe. Still, he tends to her with love and great care, in spite of the torment her self-centeredness causes him. Eventually, when the prince can tolerate the flower no longer, and in spite of his love for her, he takes advantage of a flock of wild birds to escape his planet. After all, she has her thorns for protection ..... He meets a different person on each of the planets he visits. He finds an accountant, a geographer, a king, a lamp-lighter, an "important man", and a tippler, all of whom confuse him greatly. Finally, he lands on earth and meets a crashed pilot in a desert, who befriends the prince and eventually learns many of his secrets. When the Little Prince draws a picture of his flower, the pilot recognizes it immediately as a rose, and tells the prince there are millions of flowers just like his on earth, thorns and all, which deeply disturbs the prince. If you read the book, you'll learn how the prince arrived at the conclusion, in spite of there being millions of examples of flowers that look just like his on one planet alone, that HIS flower was indeed unique in all the universe because it was HIS flower. If you're lucky, you might learn to look at the world through unjaded eyes. An example of this would be the first image I posted above, what you thought was a hat. It's not a hat at all. Shouldn't we be able to see immediately that it's a boa constrictor that has swallowed an elephant. It amazed the Little Prince that his pilot friend couldn't see it because he was a grownup. And so it is that every plant is indeed rare - if you can only see that there truly is no other precisely like it in the entire universe. How much more rare can it be?
