Barker Cabinets sample cabinet came today!!!
Comments (13)Thanks for all of your comments. We put the sample cabinet together last night and my husband was duly impressed with the quality of their cabinetry and the precision of their construction. He is an engineer by trade and a woodworker as a hobby so he has been very concerned with the flimsy quality and lack of preciseness of so many different cabinet lines we checked out. Barker is a definite go and I'm so happy about it!!! williamsem...thank you so much for the reminder! I have included all the fillers and finished end panels, scribe molding, light rail and crown...it has been quite a process that has included many, many different measuring sessions! CEFreeman...any tips you can pass along will be GREATLY appreciated!! I'm drinking my coffee this morning and going over the order one last time. Then the wait begins. There's still a lot of work to do in the kitchen before they cabinets can be installed so I'm sure the time will go fast. I'll be sure to post a reveal when it's all done!!...See MoreCabinet vision software - Barker Cabinets
Comments (3)I did it, however its been a little while. The first time I tried the program I found it completely non-intuiative and nearly gave up. Then I watched a few videos of Chad using the program and started to pay close attention to what he was doing specifically. We were just getting ready to place our order, so I didn't have time to really learn the program fully. What I did, that was helpful to us, was simply drew each cabinet wall, or run, as a separate document. I found the program useful as I was able to type in very exact measurements of each piece, type in the elevation of each piece and that is how items got moved around and the cabinets sort of snap together. This was much more precise than I had been attempting with a Home Designer product....See MoreBarker Cabinets - Kitchen Designer/layout help?
Comments (65)If your price is double, I have doubts if there is an apples to apples comparison happening. First, is the quote in the Full Access line? Omega Custom Framed cabinets will not be price comparable to Full Access. That is the fully custom division, with a price to match he possibilities. Second, did you just have them do a box to box comparison, via a list of components, or were they free to design the space with all of the needed side cover panels, molding pieces, and other required finishing touches? If they gave you a COMPLETE designed quote, and your Barker quote is lacking in the needed accessory parts, then that is not a true comparison. Accessory parts and pieces can easily add 30% to a quote from either company. Third, are you comparing the single color available finished cabinet to the multiple choices of standard finished cabinet? Not unfinished to finished. Or standard finish color to an upgraded finish color, like with a glaze or distressing. Comparing unfinished and unassembled to finished and assembled is no where near apples to apples. Although I no longer work with the line, I still find them an incredible value for someone who wants frameless cabinets but doesn't want the price of the Euro imports. Not to say that they are cheap, as no quality frameless line will be. Frameless is usually more expensive in the US than framed, simply because it is not readily available or "standard"....See MoreNeed Kitchen/Cabinet Layout Ideas for Barker Cabinets
Comments (11)Thank you for taking a look. I have included my entire plan. To answer your questions: First, do you have a fully measured layout of the Kitchen and Dining space for us to see? One that has each door/doorway/window/wall measured and labeled as well as the distances b/w each door/doorway/window/wall? From what I think I see, your architect may be right - and not just the issue with blocking the doorway, I don't know if you have room b/w the island and table. (It would be helpful if you had the same for the Living Room area as well.) **I don't have complete information. I need to measure. Ceiling to Floor height is 12'. ** What can/cannot be changed? Can rooms be switched? Can doors be moved? Walls? You appear to have a very large Living Room... **Rooms can switch. The idea was an open living/dining/kitchen area. We live in the city, so the space is not large. The space where the bedrooms start can not be changed** How high off the floor are the windows in the Dining Room? ** 3 feet, i believe** Is that a banquette in your Dining Room area? **built-in cabinetry, but we decided to do a kitchen table instead** Where does the doorway to the left lead to? Bedrooms only? **bedrooms and bathrooms** Where is the main entry - on the bottom? **see plan? What's on the far right in what appears to be an alcove of some sort? (to the right of the Living Room) What is your family composition (general - e.g., kids' age range, # of adults, etc.) ** I have one toddler, who is screaming my name right now! 21 months. I'm hoping to have a second. What are your plans for the space? Do you entertain a lot? Large groups? Small groups? **we do not entertain a lot. it will mostly be a family area....See MoreIg222
