Forget the rug, and raspberry walls. Not good with desk at all. Try a deep slate blue on walls, and find a MUCH simpler rug. No pink

Unfortunately the raspberry walls and the desk are what I'm working with. Going for a simpler rug is something I can shoot for. Thanks for your input!

Have at it then those walls are not working for me either why can’t you paint them a much more neutral color it would make theis whole thing much easier .

Thanks, Patricia. We just painted the walls so for now I have to keep it that way. I'll keep in mind the suggestions for a neutral wall and muted blue wall for the future. I can see how that would work much better with the warm oak furniture and the function of the room.

I like contemporary, modern, industrial, mcm, bohemian styles.

Then you need to start by ripping out the wainscotting. Then repaint.

I made a bad paint color choice once. Lasted one day. The next day it was gone.

Unfortunately what you have already doesn’t coordinate, so a rug, curtains etc won’t help much. Yes, painting sucks, but at this point I would bite the bullet and paint either the desk or the walls,

I think the desk is rather dated and if you can, I'd return it for something perhaps in glass, or something not so heavy. The desk should be compact and lightweight, which this one is not. How about a simple rectangular table which would serve a laptop very well. The office chairs are too big for the space. I would not put a run on top of another rug. If the other part of the room is a gym, small furnishings will look less crowded. You can achieve an office space without buying office furniture that is made for a larger, professional outside the home office.
