I am getting ready to update the wall paint in our home. For the living room, entryway and kitchen, we have chosen BM Seattle Mist .https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/1535/seattle-mist?color=1535 The entryway looks into my husband's study through an open double door. The entry has light gold-ish porcelain tile and will have a new area rug (navy, taupe, gray, ivory, black). The study will have new carpet. My question is: Do I need to paint the study to update the color or leave as is? I've had a difficult time deciding on color because the bookshelves on 3 walls are painted cool conifer/Martin Senour. They are very dark green, almost black. The stone around the fireplace and up to the ceiling has an orange/gold color with dark gray. It's been recommended to repaint to a very dark gray but I'm uncertain about that suggestion. I'd love any input. The walls are in great shape. The repaint would only be for updating. This isn't what I am suggesting for your home. It is an excellent example of what I think you are expressing in the above post regarding the "friend" to the main house. In this case the materials vary and the colors are different but are connected with the window trim (red) and the board and batten gable end as well as the friend house being board and batten. BTW, this is one of my favorites here on houzz. I happen to love these colors, but I don't think it would work with your home. But the concept is beautiful. I like what Beverly suggests as the color combos for your home - white and gray. Or possibly you could go with a yellow and gray.
