Comments (33)Mine really get going when the nights are cooler than the days in the fall..that is when they just load down with blooms...sometimes it doesn't freeze here till around Christmas and it will be in continuous flower, bud, and seedpod till then. It will really bloom all year unless I cut it back severly or let freeze to the ground. Most of mine bloom sporadically when it gets super hot and humid like July, August. I can get really good flushes in spring, early summer, and fall, early winter. It freezes here in the winter so I can either keep them going or cut back and let go semi dormant in the gh or leave in ground to go all the way dormant. If you are in the midwest where the nights cool down alot more than the daytime temps, you may have good flushes all summer and fall and possibly late spring if you keep a few Ys on the plant when you cut them back in the winter....See MoreA Funny Thing Happened on the way to pick out Grout
Comments (21)So glad Mr. Amity is feeling better! I just had slate floors installed in a mudroom and when I asked about grout, the tile store salesman said, "Everyone just goes with Bone or Natural". So I went with Bone. I LOVE it. I have no pictures handy but I found some pics to give you a visual of slate plus lighter grout, hope this helps! I only found a few pics with grout similar to the slate and they were all uniform charcoal colored slate and it made the floor tiles blend together. You have nice variation, maybe you shouldn't blend, I'd wanna see those tiles! They're awesome!...See MoreBuying colored grout / finding right color
Comments (10)a2gemini - thanks. I've tracked down a local big tile shop that stocks TEC so will go tomorrow and get a few sample colors to try out on a sample board. Sample bars sound useful for narrowing down the colors. localeater - don't want to match exactly, just want something that goes well with the CT, cabinets, and tile. Thanks sayde, good points about the drying grout being a different color. I've also read that it may take several days before grout color finishes drying. Francoise47 and rhome410-- We'll definitely do a sample board or two. Glad to hear all the TEC recommendations. Pricklypearcactus - I always forget what a difference different lighting, makes. In this case, there are two doorways in the room but no natural light. We have two CREE overhead lights and lots of UCL. chispa and enduring - my favorite is the vertical cross as well. I've looked at so many star and cross patterns and for a while considered doing the stars in one colorway and the crosses in another. In this case, grout color can be a third partner in the color scheme; I've seen some beautiful examples. But I chickened out and went with the single color (which should have variation in it)....See Morehelp picking out grout color + ending backsplash border
Comments (8)Hi thanks for the responses ! The trim is going anywhere the backsplash ends , so all those cuts will be addressed. I just can’t quite figure out with what kind of trim. I’ve looked up the metal ones, but they’re very thin and I want one that’s at least an inch wide. And I’m not finding a matching glass tile color to use. And yeah, I originally didn’t want the side splash of the quartz on the wall either but was advised from several people that behind the sink areas, without a side splash, can create leaks / water eventually seeps in between the tile backsplash and counter top. And because the sink is in front of the pass thru , and we wanted a counter top for the pass thru anyway (paint never lasted and always came off bc of heat from food and how we use it) — with the side splash, there wasn’t enough space to put tile (I won’t lie, I wasn’t the most confident in my contractors abilities to do it either) so again, just decided to continue the quartz up. Definitely not the traditional way to do it, but I need this to last several years, and we use our kitchen a lot. So I figured this was the best way to get the most longevity out of our reno. But yeah, I myself would’ve preferred to not have it. Lol. My first choice for backsplash would have been marble - but thinking longevity — we cook with a lot of turmeric , paprika, etc - lots of staining ingredients- so I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of maintaining marble either (backsplash continues behind the stove) Out of all the options at floor &decor, this backsplash seemed to match best at the time. But now I’m just so unsure about it, so I’m just trying to make it work. Here’s picture of wood floor. It’s a townhouse - so foyer , kitchen and dining has same flooring. This pic was taken before backsplash. Thanks again for the input ! Any ideas on grout color? The cabinet color also keeps changing. Some days it looks blue, others a grey blue....See MoreN Levine
