Recommendations for Duraseal wood floor stain for red oak
Comments (26)G & S Floor Service - Will Nutmeg come out orangey on Red Oak? My husband would like to go lighter and doesn't mind a golden or reddish tone as he likes the look of a cherry woodd color but I really want more of a brown. Would Medium Brown work well? I would go for Jacobean but my husband is averse to how dark it is. He would probably be happy with chestnut or provincial and a cinnamon colored floor. :-) I would truly appreciate hearing from you as I have to give my floor guy 4 choices of stains to try out today!...See MoreSilvered Grey Stain on Red Oak Floors
Comments (14)I’m happy with how 1pt Jacobean / 2pts Silvered Grey turned out. It’s a medium brown with some grey. In some lighting it is more brown, in some more grey, and in some it still has a touch of red but it leans reddish-brown not pink. I have attached a photo but after looking at hundreds of photos of floors online, I think you really do have to sample these colours in real life to see how they’ll look in your home!...See MoreHi! Has anyone every stained there red oak with a low VOC water stain?
Comments (12)You have choices. 1) You can do the floor natural color and use all water based products to eliminate residual odors. 2) You can use a reliable oil based stain that is formulated to use with water based finishes and perhaps have some residual odor. 3) You can use water based stain and when the application is predictably unacceptable, you can choose selections 1 or 2 above. Other than water based aniline dye applied at full strength, I've not seen an acceptable water based wood floor stain. Which one were you looking at to recommend to your contractor?...See Morewhite oak and red oak floor next to each other stain help
Comments (5)I don't think you will be able to get that light look consistently with red and white oak. You probably need to go with a medium neutral stain on all floors, one that has green tones in it. Green is the complement to red/pink, and mixing complementary colors neutralizes them. I've had success with Special Walnut stain throughout my home. The floors in the original (1920s) part of the home are oak, not sure if red or white. The new white oak floors in the kitchen were installed in 2014; all are stained special walnut. Here is a photo of the transition area between dining room (above the saddle) and kitchen (below the saddle). The color is not too dark and not too light. Depending on the light it can look warmer or cooler. It's my "go-to" color for me and my clients for many years....See Moreulisdone
