November 2018 -New Home Build Thread
Comments (182)Hello all, I have an update for you on my small house (930 SQFT) Roof was finished and I talk about the price of material and labor. Siding on the house is also going up(I show those prices too) so its starting to look like a house now. Please take a gander at the video and consider subscribing to my youtubes :-) I know my "posts aren't typical for this site" but you can see the construction process and you can get ideas from all the pricing of materials and labor that I show, contractors almost never do that. That's the idea behind the channel to show how much things cost so you have an idea what this process looks like. My 930square foot home is tiny compared to most homes on here, and there are some awesome builds in this thread, but wait till you see my next project it will trully be tiny! Come and take a look at me climbing the roof lol. /cheers...See MoreSeptember 2020 Building a Home Thread
Comments (541)@lynnheins, I am so sorry about your roof! Gosh, that sucks! We are having a roof issue, too, that the builder says is a non-issue. It only shows for a brief period of the day when the sun is at a certain position.... His response was, “It comes from the sun hitting it on just the right angle and shows up any tiny bit of irregularity on the sheathing. It seems it happens more with unfinished areas as the temp change makes it condensate more when the sun hits the top side and the bottom is still cold. I’m not sure there is anything we can do with it but we will look at it.” Ugh....See MoreFebruary 2021 Building a Home Thread
Comments (529)I understand, Emily. Lots of hard decisions to make, especially when you’re already retired. 17 yrs ago, we were in the same boat. We both were at risk of losing our jobs and decided against spending the extra $30k to prep for future bonus room and extra bath upstairs. We didn’t do it and I’ve always regretted it. Now, our roof tresses etc would need to be totally redone, so it’s off the table. 17 years later, we are building a detached granny flat that will cost us way more than that. I’ll have to go back and read Brandies comments re screws. I missed that one. Best wishes on your build. I will be glad when this is all over and I don’t wake up multiple times per night worrying about the mistakes i might be making, LOL....See MoreFebruary 2022 Building a Home
Comments (519)@jkent9024 very cool shot. Our builder and my dh took shots of every wall in the framing phase to know where lines are etc. . They've just about finished with our exterior painting. Still have another coat to do on the trim and they are currently sanding and restaining our screened porch ceiling because somehow it didn't end up the color we had requested. @chispa Our pool contractor is on the ball and on schedule, and our pool has been filled. for almost a week. We should have been moving in in 30 days. Unfortunately the house now has 3 months to go. The first two weeks our pool contractor does a start up program but after that, we'll be taking care of a pool we can't use. There's always somebody working at the house each day, but nothing exciting happening. Some trim on the main level and as mentioned the exterior painting/staining finishing up. Painting inside should commence soon. Currenlty I'm focusing on our current home, getting it ready to list for sale on the 15th of this month. So much to do, so I haven't been online as much, but everybody's homes are looking great....See MoreRelated Professionals
