Did you plant them deep enough??? Verses the instructions??? When you see them starting to come up put a bloom booster plant food on them. I use Miracle Grow Bloom Booster. In fall give them a time released plant food. Bulbs are pretty resilient. Unless you have grubs or did not plant them deep enough to survive the cold. Cover them with mulch in the fall to give them a "blanket", of sorts against the cold. What is your soil like??? Even though bulbs will grow in the worst soil with virtually NO CARE..To get the best results you need to feed them. Have you dug up the bulbs and looked at them?? Are the bulbs in tact, or gone, or rotten??? Are there any bugs in the soil??? A time released insect killer is a good idea also. I think you should plant perennials instead of annuals..Day lily or Hosta depending on the sun exposure. Day lily is better because they root near the surface..Do day lilies survive winter up there??? If you must have lots of flowers, all summer Black Eyed Susan can work also.

What's at the base of the rock wall? Sidewalk? Tearing out the root structures that are anchoring the hillside might compromise the strength of that wall. Is that wall contiguous with the two properties to either side of your house? If so, how do they have their sloped properties landscaped? Working on a steep slope is a job for the experienced landscape renovation crew. For now, get an identification of the upper shrub hedge and leave it in place until you put together several quotes from recommended landscape professionals and work up a budget. Yes, early fall is the better time for plant installations. If you're brave, take a long handled strong metal tined rake and see what's hiding under the pile of burlap. Might be as simple as an old tree stump. But, a pile of anything on the ground is a haven for critters and the snakes they attract.

Our new home will be west facing, as well, in Texas. I deliberately chose this orientation because we're building a tract home and selected the floor plan first. But... And it's a big but.... The garage, entry/foyer, and one small room face west. I wanted to minimize western exposure, because our current rental has a backyard/dining/powder/master that faces west, and it's pure torture. It is super important to me that the kitchen, dining, and living all face south for maximum light throughout (our current northern living spaces are depressingly dark), and I gotta have all of the bedrooms face north (bedrooms are only used for beds and clothing storage, no toys). West-facing living areas or sleeping areas are a total deal breaker for me. Since I rejected the other lots, the sales associate opened up another section of the neighborhood for me. Would that be an option for you, by any chance?

I agree with the above posters- I like the current white that you have it works great with your brown roof and the black windows.
