Comments (13)Len, that's a very interesting bit on sports, and I thank you for bringing it to our attention. I've seen a picture of a chimera in which the bloom was half like one rose and half like another. But that's not how this bloom is, this bloom is all symmetrical. When a bush sports, all the flowers on the cane don't necessarily all change at once, the mutation happens in just one cell, first, then as the bush grows it spreads from cell to cell. It takes as long as it takes that cell to expand. The sport (I'm just going to call it a sport because it was different from the other flowers on the bush, and we can worry about what it really is later) was the last flower on the lateral. The bloom that was like the usual AS bloom, bloomed later, but it was closer to the cane. So therefore, we don't know much until the lateral grows out more, PAST the sport. I'll worry about the DNA later, at this point I just want my baby to live. Live, baby, LIVE! Does anyone know Markiz37 (PA)? He started a thread on Rose Prop forum called My setup for rooting cuttings (photos), but the photos have been moved or deleted. If anyone knows him, I'd love to talk to him. Would you ask him to send me an email? I read also that Mgleason was using a similar method to root cuttings. I'd love to talk with him also. DesertDance, thank-you for your kind, encouraging words! Me and my twig appreciate all good energy sent our way. -Gala...See MoreHow do you get a bent stem into a straight hole?
Comments (6)hey!!! ... think outside the box ... see pic below ... my record is 25 conifer cuttings in one milk jug ... fear success ... lol ... i sterilize everything but the brand new gal bag .... i leave them for about 3 months [because thats how long conifers take ... depends on the stock] .... removing the bag only once to remove any dead or rotting failures .... i leave about 1/2 inch water at the bottom.. and MAYBE once do I have to add more water .... since the bag is exterior to the jug.. it tends to leak out over time ... they are put on a heat mat under lights .... this was one of my first attempts.. I use about half as much perlite now .... garbage can size bag for about 15$ will last a longggg time .... try to never get caught in one procedure and get frustrated by it .... work your way out of the corner you paint yourself into ... later in spring.. they go into 16.9 oz water bottles ... key word: FREE ... with tops cut off and bottoms sliced for drainage ... since my wife wont drink the well water ... good luck ken...See MoreLovely shrubby rose on edge of parking lot...
Comments (4)Name:Sally Holmes Type: Shrub Climber Bloom Characteristics: Color: white Fragrance: light Petal Count: 5-11 Bloomshape: single Comments: large flat semi-double blooms in clusters Bloom Period: excellent bloomer Growth Characteristics: Height (first year): 4' Width (first year): 2' Growth Habit: upright Vigor: medium Foliage Note: lush; well foliated, disease-resistant Additional Information: Awards: ARS Rating: 8.9 Origin: Holmes, UK, 1976 LOL to a "generic" wild rose it's just wild rose which is a one time bloomer in early spring in a small 4 petal count fragerance sweet in white and sometimes pink single cane with muti flowerings and massive hips in fall a green foilage depending on sun exposure to dark green. I lost track of wild rose prior to 1500 AD in the middle east parts of the world perhaps Northern Afganistan hips contain seedlings inside them a bird or animal of some type carried and droped enough hips to grow the wild rose can also drop there hips I wouldn't reccomend cutting or root digging a wild rose for your yard, but this one will do fine with some easy care and prunning. Keep an eye on it from time to time and wait till spring to get a few cuttings as there is an expired patten # If on private property you should ask the owner of property for cuttings ( a rose growers ethical practice ) PS nice pic thanks for the added growing info Enjoy...See MoreBest temperatures for wedge cuttings?
