NEED SERIOUS DESIGN HELP

Our townhome was built in 1999 and we purchased in 2008. Life kept getting in the way but we are now at a place where we want to do some updates. First on the list is the master bath and replacing the flooring and paint. We unfortunately have carpet in the bathroom (yuck)! We are planning on installing Pergo waterproof laminate. We have a very large living room which we are planning on framing off and making a 3rd bedroom. These were easy design projects for us.

What we are stuck on is flooring and paint colors for the kitchen, dinning and living. We have VERY old carpet in the dining and living. The kitchen has laminate that needs replaced. With our home layout, we want the same flooring for the kitchen, dining and living. We are having an extremely difficult time picturing this because of the color of the kitchen cabinets, interior doors, and trim. As you'll see in the pictures, I believe the trim and doors are oak colored? They definitely aren't real oak. In the kitchen, our cabinets are in good shape. Would painting them be a good idea? Paint them white and add hardware? Or paint another color? Add backsplash? What color? What color flooring could we use? We don't want anything too dark and something that can hold up to pets. If painting the cabinets couldn’t make the budget, what color flooring would you recommend? The house is covered in this trim and painting it stresses us out!

What would you change?

If we had to keep the interior doors, trim and cabinets the same as is, what would you do?

What color paint would you use for the cabinets?

What color of paint would look good in the living room with this color trim?

What color flooring would you do if the trim, doors and cabinets had to stay the same?

Sorry. We've been stressing. Any ideas or advice is appreciated.
