what makes white walls work- dp I have the 'right stuff'?
Comments (72)Homebody, In the opposite white wall situation from you. Just moved in to an empty, all white walled townhouse/apartment. It has lovely wood floors and architectural details (like yours), and I hope to keep the light bright feel by decorating with pops of color. Different style than what you are going for, as I am going eclectic furnishings from flea markets and Mexico. But I think the color combos and other concepts might be similar. I only have a camera on my phone, so the pictures are a bit grainy. The dining area is complete, but there is a photo of my bedroom & living room that need help if any one has any suggestions. Here is a link that might be useful: My house...See MoreIn desperate need of help changing very poorly designed kitchen
Comments (48)cpartist no, hubby doesn't do any cooking, as he leaves the kitchen a complete disaster, uses a hundred dishes, and always manages to use the wrong pots or pans, so has been permanently banned from using it. You would think he wouldn't care what I wanted done with the kitchen, but he is definitely opinionated. He is sweet, though, and did the pantry as a surprise for me, because he thought it'd make me happy. That's what makes my situation so difficult, because I feel bad and a bit selfish for wanting to tear it out. Again, the u-shape is out, because he has set his feet against changing the pass-through. I also don't want to hear another rant about how much he paid for the header beams (apparently they're very expensive) and how he's not moving them ever. Maybe I could convince him to turn it into a doorway and close up the other doorway, but even with the pantry removed, I think it would leave less room for cabinets than I have now. Do you think that would be a good option nonetheless?...See MoreDesperately need help designing this Fireplace wall.
Comments (22)Those are great, CeleryGirl. I guess I am going to think about adding the wider window on the right only. The one that's there doesn't open and it's too close to the fireplace. Do you all think the window on the right should be the same height as the front window? Should I ignore the ceiling slope or should I incorporate some detail over the fireplace that goes straight up to the ceiling?...See MoreIn desperate need of design help!! Comments (14)I think some of those laminates are mimicing level one granites; many have commented that level one granites were actually less expensive than the laminate estimates they got...not sure if that included installation costs. Do you live in an area where designers are readily available? Not all of us do....I found a tile store designer with A great “eye” who I hired to advise me on paint colors and other design input I wanted. I would consider painted cabs with your flooring choice since I am having a hard time thinking of a stain color and wood that would compliment. A darker, greyed-brown might work but the wood would have to be carefully chosen to avoid orangish/reddish tones....See Moretartanmeup
