Very lucky horse! I was sure you had adopted another kill lot one, but this one has a very happy ending as well.

You can see how exhausted the poor thing was. The sheriff was called and I guess he helped find her owners. You can see how caked in mud she was, and still wet when she was found. She was found very close to the bayou. I don't know if she fell in because she got too close to the edge and the bank gave way or maybe dogs chased her and she didn't know it was there.

It's a good thing she was in good condition. Otherwise I am pretty sure she wouldn't have been able to get out and looks like she had an awful struggle.

Why was I expecting this to be about a homeless horse being rescued and adopted by you?

I'm glad she was found and I hope the wet, cold, and trauma doesn't' have an affect on her health. She was smart to lay down in the middle of the road, much better chance of being seen and getting attention than if she had laid down in grass, weeds, whatever alongside the road.

Here's another horse rescue story: In Huntington Beach, CA a horse was found standing in one of those big, metal dumpsters. An animal rescue team lifted him out with a fork lift. Google if interested.....

I don't know that laying down in the road was a good idea, because, you know, cars, but I'm really glad that the horse was seen and helped and cared for and reunited with its owners.

Its a better story, IMHO, than the nationally reported one during the California wildfires last year, where someone found a horse that fell into a swimming pool and couldn't get out. They helped the horse out of the pool, and then simply let it wander off on its own so that it could perish in the fire or be hit by a car or simply die from hunger or thirst.

You're right...it would have been very hard to see her in the dark laying in the road. Fortunately it is a 30 mph zone right there. Not a lot of traffic though....very. very small town. I didn't help with her rescue...didn't know about it until 5a.m. when my friend sent me a text. I put it on FB because my friend isn't on FB, to try and find her owner. I just had the pic of her covered up, and I thought she was a bay, but looks like she was maybe a buckskin. My friend said she was so covered in mud, she couldn't tell what color she was.

I hope we hear an update about her. I was told the people lived on Johnson street, but there is no Johnson Street here. There is one in the next town, about 15 miles away. If this is so, I don't know how she got here and in the bayou. I hope it wasn't a terrible act of cruelty against her owners and the mare herself. That is very sad to even contemplate.
