Sherwin-Williams Resilience vs. Benjamin Moore Super Spec
Comments (1)Resilience is better matched to BM's MoorGard or MoorGlo, not SuperSpec. Since 80% or so of the cost of your paint job is labor, it does indeed pay to upgrade to the best paint offered (Duration for SW, Aura for BM) but you need to remember that the job will only be as good as the prep done. This is where you should look closely when comparing bids....See MoreBenjamen Moore Aura vs. Sherwin Williams Duration
Comments (24)I quit using Aura for wall painting about 2 years ago though I will still use the Matte finish when people want a washable flat. I'm leaning away from BM these days and more towards SW. BM is more durable for sure, but the application and getting it to look good on the wall is becoming more of a challenge. My theory is that a paint manufacturer will introduce a paint line, people will love it for a while, and then they mess with the formula or cheapen it to increase profits or whatever and the painter will start to notice about 4-5 years down the road. Case in point, I just did a job last year painting trim where I painted an addition in 2008 with BM Aura semi-gloss and there was still a half gallon left from 2008 so I was able to compare the 2008 version with the 2016 version and it was a night and day difference. The 2008 version covered better and levelled out better. The whole reason I used to love Aura was for it's levelling out properties. Ahh well, at least SW is cheaper!...See Morebenjamin moore vs pratt and lambert
Comments (22)"Forget about the VOC's, whatever amount in ANY water based paint is not going to harm anything." Nothing could be further from the truth. Depending on the state you live in, a latex paint can have a VOC level of 150 grams per liter (gpl) before tinting. Colorant can add up to another 100 gpl for a deep color. In a gallon of paint (about 3.9 liters) that equates to up to 1 kilogram or 2.2 pounds of VOC emissions that are released. In a typical room that uses two gallons, that's over 4 pounds of liquid that will turn into VOC emissions. On the other hand, a paint like Natura that remains 0 in any color releases virtually nothing. Bottom line, latex does not equate to low emissions....See MoreBenjamin Moore, Behr, or Sherwin Williams
Comments (35)You're welcome. To answer your initial question, if I had control/choice I would choose Aura matte for my new house walls. Maybe Regal on the ceilings. Painters are going to try to talk you into what they want to use. Sometimes it's about margins, sometimes it's simply what they prefer to work with (can't blame 'em). Exterior - I never tell a painter what paint he/she has to use because they're the ones who have to guarantee the paint job and exterior can be rough. Interior, however, is a different story. Weather isn't a consideration so I'll push harder to get what I want in terms of product. Most of the time the reason I push for a specific product is because it's color critical. It's not a true picture to compare paint price per gallon. You need to compare price per square foot. And the top tier grades like Aura cost about a nickel more per square; that puts the difference into perspective and gives you a more realistic view of affordability and value. In addition, the Benjamin Moore Color Stories colors can only be mixed in an Aura paint base. So choosing Aura gives you the option of full spectrum color if you want it....See Moreostrich
