Recessed Lighting for 8' Ceiling
Comments (1)5" cans would be fine. The size of the can will be influenced by other factors 1. Compliance with local energy laws (eg - title 24) and availability of cans of the particular size. 2. Lighting type - CFL or LED. All the CFL cans that comply with title 24 will come with built in ballast. Most are 6". The bulb itself is separate and not the same as the screw in CFLs that can be purchased at any grocery store. There are dimmable fluorescent lights. Fluorescent lights require a warm up period. The LED pricing these days is comparable to CFL lighting (title 24 compliant). HTH...See MoreLow voltage recessed lighting for artwork, sloped ceiling
Comments (4)Just thought I'd post a picture of my lighted art work. We ended up using just one 4 inch recessed low voltage light with the aiming elbow trim. To me it does not look like it needs the 4 or more lights that the previous poster suggested. There certainly is a big difference in how the art looks with and without being lit. First picture is with recessed light off. The flash made a white spot on picture. Second picture is with light turned on. No flash needed on camera what do you think?...See MoreRecessed lighting spacing question for room with low ceiling
Comments (2)There is the Home Depot version of the CR6 (Ecosmart ECO-575L), which is now about $35. It is the light and trim, so you just install it on the can. The new version, 800 lumens, is out as CR6, but not yet as an Ecosmart ECO-800L. It presently costs about $55 each; I would expect the Ecosmart one to show up in a month or two, at maybe $45 or so. Here is a link that might be useful: Specs on the CR6 version, including beam spread...See More6-inch recessed cans lights in 8-foot ceilings?
Comments (10)We had ceilings that were a little less than 8 ft in our last house and used 6" recessed cans. We also used them throughout this house, which has 9 ft ceilings downstairs, but 8 ft ceilings upstairs. They have the white trim rings, so blend with the ceilings and I think they're fine. I don't know if it helps, but here are photos that show the ones in our bedroom and in the fridge/pantry alcove of our kitchen, which both have ceilings at 8 ft. The one in the kitchen shows up more because of the green ceiling, and the camera captures a glow that makes it look more obvious than it does in person....See Morepeggysue_1975
