Glenda, I once lived in an upstairs. The heat comming from below since heat rises was the best thing about it. You may be able to lower your thermostat and save a few bucks.

The noise level on top, is better. No ones stomping across your ceiling. I always ask for an upstairs room in a motel. If there's a bath tub overflow the units below would be flooded....so on-top is better. Lots of advantages to being ON-TOP! Good pick Glenda!

We have a few employees who come from hot countries. When it's cold outside our lunchroom turns into a sauna. I shut the heat right off in there and wedge the door open or I feel like passing out. The big problem is: they don't turn the heat back down when they leave the room. And they put the switch to at least 24C! That's crazy!

Lucky you Glenda. Radiant floor heating at zero cost. Best kind of heat ever. As long as the neighbor heats his space those floors will stay warm. The thermal mass of the floors depending on what they are made of will hold the heat longer than heat that is simply released into the air space above them from standard sources.

I'm in the middle, so I'm just right! Have always had excellent neighbors below and above. Great gal below, of 12 years, got married, and neighbor above moved in after the original tenant of 10 years moved. I knew his parents before he was born and I could not wish for better living arrangements, plus view. I'm walk in level front and back with deck is in the and above tree tops.l Have yet to meet the new neighbor, due to his coming and going hours, below me. I just noticed the warm floors last night, due to the weather and realized his car tag is from Florida.

Enjoying/appreciappreciating one's neighours is another bonus/benefit, for sure.

Well, it sort of worked for DH when he was a bachelor and I had just met him. He lived in a 4-plex, on the top floor. He kept his heat at 60. His neighbor below constantly complained of how hard it was to heat his own apartment. DH took me there once and I refused to even take off my coat, let alone anything else. Poor courtship move on his part! Neighbor was delighted when he moved and his own heating bill went down and his apartment was warmer.

I know exactly how you feel, Glenda. I have crawl space below where I sit to watch T.V. It wold probably not be so bad if I had wall-to-wall carpeting but I have hard wood floors and oriental. The rug does not extend where my feet are and no-one is moving below. Not liking these 15 degree temps. :-(((

The HVAC guy for our house was a dud. We added a tiny boiler and hot water tubing under the floor of the rooms on the north side of our house. These are my favorite rooms for comfort in winter. They still get forced air heat with the essential humidity from the flow-through humidifiers on the furnace.

Our Maui condo faces NW. It's ground floor and stays cooler when the the two-story townhouse above it is occupied. There are also large overhangs. The TV weatherman in Honolulu is moaning about the overnight lows -- 68F. We're to be minus one tonight and are running out of places to shovel the snow off our driveway. I'm feeling more sorry that we couldn't get to Maui this year...wah. (The extra income from renting 'our' time Jan - Mar. has been some comfort.)
