Comments (9)It really was quite a wild afternoon. Isn't he adorable. He was only about eight inches long, which is apparently normal for them. And I loved how angry he looked _ like how dare you take a picture of me while I'm trying to figure out how to get out of your house? Meanwhile, as much as the pets added to the problems, I don't think any of them noticed the rather big bird flying around the house. I guess all my pets are focused on lizards and mice and other floor-dwelling critters....See MoreGreat horned owls in our neighborhood
Comments (8)Wow. I've only heard one and it was in the big maple tree late one night years ago when I was returning home from a gig. As I stepped up on my back porch I heard it calling, mesmerizing....See MoreOT - Critters in the Neighborhood
Comments (12)Stunning pictures. I am not surprised the deer came on to your deck last year - here, in a suburban neighborhood with houses on every 1/4 acre lot, they climb up my one story tall brick front stairs, walk onto our old wrap around front porch (c. 1905), and eat the plants growing in pots right next to my front door. The Big Horn Sheep have probably been going through your area long before your house was built - YOU actually moved into THEIR neighborhood. Glad much of the area is protected. It certainly is wonderful that you can see all of the wildlife. Jackie...See MoreShe just looks so pitiful. She's all wet. We have a covered deck...
Comments (64)I occasionally hear an owl but never have seen it in my neighborhood. We're going broke feeding the birds seed and suet. We have a suet hanging on the magnolia tree which the squirrels loved so we bought a caged suet holder and I hung it on a metal tripod. It's a feat but the squirrels found that too and hang on with their toes and eat upside down. Yesterday I heard screaming blue jays and just ignored them thinking they were annoyed at the catbirds in the feeder. Nope, when I went out an enormous hawk was sitting low on a birdbath. He was huge. A few months ago my resident white squirrel built a nest right outside my sunroom. Later she brought two little babies down...one her white twin and the other grey. Sadly I think she was hit by a car but the baby and sibling are still here. I have a love/ hate relationship with owls. I follow cams in the Chesapeake and Hog Island Maine and for years the damn owls have killed all the baby osprey chicks. This last episode was killing for fun not food as the the sweet little fluffy birds were just slaughtered and left there....See More- 6 years ago
