Have somebody hold a flashlight at different levels pointing down at you while you lean into the mirror and imagine that you're trying to get an eyelash out of your eye. If you are working in your own shadow, the lights are too high. This is why sconces, one on either side of the mirror, are better for best lighting/visibility.

My builder and I had this discussion yeasterday. Most vanity lights are placed atleast 6'3" to around 7'. Partly depends on the size of your lights.(He had me bring the print out of the lights I ordered with the sizes) Also have to account for hieght of user.(Planning for future growth of my 14 year 6' son in his bathroom)

I would start by taking adding up all the rough measurements you need for each section. Shower-25sf Vanity - 16sf Water closet - 18sf Tub - 32sf Extra closet - 64sf Sitting area - 25sf These alone equal 180sf. Then you need maneuvering room. You may want to start around 14x14 (or 13x15, 12x16) and adjust up from there. I wish my closet was bigger for resale, but it suits us fine. It's roughtly 8x10 but it's an odd shape instead of perfectly rectangle. Since you are adding this as a second closet, I figured yours about 8x8. Have Fun!

I agree with RL above! we placed our pendants exactly where we wanted them after the bar went in. We have a peninsula about that size and have 3 pendants. They are spaced 29” apart and the pendants are about 7“ wide. When our kitchen was mostly done we were able to totally customize the pendant locations. I blew up balloons and hung them onthe ceiling by strings to test ideas. We centers one pendant on a window and then aligned Another with the sink and then used that distance to place the third. so it was elaborate and non standard and what we needed. we picked the pendants we liked best, knowing we were going to have 3, and then blew up balloons close to their size. our tastes are more minimalist than the current pendant trend. But I wouldn’t have wanted then any larger or any closer together. turned out perfect for us. so I agree with the above. I don’t think having locations and spacings fixed at this stage makes sense. We’d have had a lot of regrets if we chose locations sooner
