Flooring help please!!
Comments (11)As Oak & Broad is pointing out, your home could benefit from a lime wash or a smoked finish simply because your wood walls are NOT gold....they are a mid-tone brown. That gives you SOOOO many more options. You can work with a natural (ie. non-orange) white oak without any stain whatsoever = light gold tones with plenty of green undertones (white oak in a natural finish can be a little green in a character grade product). Or you can have a white wash (very light) or a lime wash (staying away from "pickling" which was popular in the 80's that had PINK tones). Of course if you work with European Oak (a premium product to begin with), you won't have to have ANY wash/colour added. It already starts out life in the "silver-gold" tones...just like Unique Wood Floors shows. As European Oak ages, it turns more silver. The gold-tones start to disappear with UV exposure. But to get this to happen, the wood MUST have clear coat water based products used (like Bona or Loba). An oil based or oil modified finish will simply turn orange no matter what wood you use....See Moreflooring help please! :)
Comments (9)Sorry but Loba Impact Oil is an oil finish that is just like the other oil finishes. It isn't great when it comes to hiding oil splashes...drips...cooking splatter...mud...steam from dishwashers...etc. The 'two species' of wood is correct. You have two different species and the ORIGINAL installer did a MAGNIFICENT job of 'stain matching' the two different woods. Your flooring contractor did not do HER/HIS PROFESSIONAL due diligence. That is to say, s/he did NOT notify you when the two species were discovered. S/he did NOT attempt a 'stain match' to blend the two floors. S/he did NOT stop the work as soon as the problem became evident. Personally I would reach out to an NWFA Sanding/Refinisher for options. I believe this floor can be dealt with .... with extra funds and some extra time and some extra love. A 'guy' who says "Nope. Can't be done." means HE can't do it. HE IS THE ONE who does not have the skills. That's what that answer means. Someone better contact Loba to see if a polyurethane can adhere to a floor that had Impact oil SANDED OFF....See MoreFlooring help please!
