If you paint window sashes black, should you remove white window trim?
Comments (6)Thanks all! Especially for pics, was having trouble find ones that had both trim and drapes with black sashes that I liked but those made me feel better about both. These windows have removable grids that we found in attic when we bought home, so we’ll just paint them black and snap them back on and voila!...See MoreWhat color trim with this wallpaper?
Comments (20)Ginger, please press pause and think about all these these things before making any decisions. The bulb shades are up to you, but bare bulbs are very glare-ish (is that a word), not kind to the skin, not romantic, and gives some people headaches. You can get little fabric shades or less expensive paper shades. Ballard Catalog sells them, but you can get them elsewhere for less money. They can be plain off white silk (real silk or other fabric) or linen or paper or you can do them in your wall paper, but that's too matchy-matchy. A dramatic look would be deep color. Sometimes they are lined in silver or gold. Not necessarily saying that would go well with your decor. I love the look. Just know the Swiffer duster with extendible wand is your friend, (My ostrich feather duster feels so neglected, I am tempted to dye those feathers and stick them on a hat, but I just don't have the nerve!...See MoreWhat color paint to coordinate with black & white wallpaper
Comments (42)palimsest I am for sure not going to do wainscoting. I really like where you showed what that would look like with the side wall papered and the fixture wall painted. The side walls wouldn't be too hard to do and I really do think it would look good. If I do the side walls in the paper and paint the fixture wall black then What is your opinion on my oil rubbed bronze towel bar, light sconces and tp holder? leave them, paint them(what color?) or replace them(what color?)...See MoreHelp integrating secondary trim color into home w/ black accents
Comments (11)@Lyn Nielson It does sound busy, which is why I'm curious about it. Yes, we have a double-height space in the living room/kitchen/office with ~18' walls of windows. All of the doors are in a lower ceilinged hallway, with the exception of one in the master bedroom going to the bath. Yes, we've already purchased the grey flooring, it's not a wood look, it looks like stone. We were hoping to go with a porcelain tile that looks a bit like cold rolled steel, but due to the budget getting out of hand, we opted to nix the tile and go with LVT for the time being, with the intent to replace it after 10-20 years with tile once our bank balance has recovered a bit and the floor has gotten trashed. We aren't enthusiastic about it, but it's one of the few that neither of us hated, and it's inexpensive. With the amount of additional wood in the house, we aren't worried about the house feeling cold. The combo of the ceiling and a few walls of hickory ply built-ins should bring plenty of warmth to the space....See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
