So funny story, I wanted white oak because I wanted them very light. My husband is a very earthy guy and said no, so we met in the middle and decided on these. First crush is also very nice and light but I felt it was more coastal and beach like which we live in a mountain area. we have a new track build and all the neighbors went through the builder and they all wish they did it like me, they like our floors so much better. The wide longer planks, not to mention the texture. I honestly think this floor will compliment any style or color. I’m happy with it. one day i’ll get white flooring haha also these show foot prints and all the dirt fairly easy.

Make sure you look for a water resistant laminate because most laminates don’t like water. We were looking at AtroGuard laminate by Lamett, but have since decided to install SPC (stone polymer composite) rigid plank SuperCore flooring from WeShipFloors.com. It’s not bothered by moisture and humidity, and living in Mississippi that’s a real plus. With the laminate we would have to run dehumidifiers 24/7 to maintain the 40-60% humidity to keep it happy during the summer and humidifiers in winter to maintain the humidity during cold weather when the heat has to be on. Most of the water resistant laminates are surface water protected for up to 72 hours, but if water gets under it the floor can be ruined. The Flooret Modin SPC plank has some colors you might like and so does SuperCore. It’s definitely worth reading up on the newcomer SPC since it can take temps much higher than LVP and WPC (wood polymer composite) vinyl plank flooring and is much more stable in sunlight. I also suggest you read a lot about laminate since you stated you are looking for flooring that will be durable with water. IMHO, the SPC flooring will fit your needs better. There are some companies that have a tile look SPC if that interest you. It may take some research to find them, but they’re out there. Good luck in your flooring search. I really suggest you do some reading on both types of flooring and then decide what you think will work best on a concrete slab in Florida that needs to stand up well to water with humidity, kids and a dog in the picture.

@toycar77 Shaw Floorte Elite Prodigy HDR MXL Plus Golden Age was the one we were waiting on for over 6 months and then when that got pulled from market while we were waiting (bullet dodged apparently) we were waiting on one of their tile styles and the Shaw rep from our flooring retailer said those were being pulled too because of installation issues (I think the joints were cracking during install). They both are part of their new “mineral core” planks/tiles so might have something to do with the mineral core? They are “updating” them now but all we could find out was that it might be the end of the year (with no real known date at this time). I don’t know if the smaller planks are affected though (the Prodigy ones that aren’t MXL plus) because there was just the one color and size that we were interested in that tested well in our fabric test (at least the three samples we had at the time). They clearly released the product before it was actually ready so I’m not sure if I’d trust the “update” until it’s tested in the real world! Plus, at this point, it’s hard to have any faith that the new updated version will have a non-destructive finish. I would say fingers crossed on that one but I’d rather hope for finding something better sooner!

@Lindsay K, I do remember older sheet vinyl would sometimes have a strong odor. I made a comment regarding LVP off gassing in another thread. I'll copy it here: ...I am SUPER sensitive to any off - gassing and smells or odors! I once could not get out of bed for over a week. Finally traced it to a mattress topper (made from a petrolleum based product). Even after it was removed from our bed, just rolled up in the corner of the bedroom, it affected me. It took me over a week to recover after it was completely removed from our house! All that to say - we laid 750 sq ft of SuperCore Xtreme - NOT a single problem with odor, off-gassing or anything! We used Asheville Xtreme. I wasn't thrilled with the color when I picked it. Just the process of elimination. Now that it's down - LOVE it! Just enough knots for character. Great neutral color. (Website pics on SuperCore.com are not a good representation, IMO.) I have mentioned in other comments - it's in our lower level where people come in from a sandy beach. After a full summer, NOT a single scratch. Mops easy - no spotting, no smears, just clean. 14 adults and 15 grandchildren almost every weekend!! I do not know about other brands of LVP.
