I think 2 toned kitchens are great. I have one myself (main L is a sage green with a coffee glaze and the cook top area is an off white with Coffee Glaze). If you are planning on doing the two colors on the walls/bases on the same run, the only thing I can caution you against is if you have any TALL cabinets (a refrigerator surround cabinet, a tall oven, pantry cabinet, etc), you now have an issue where the tall cabinet could go either way. If you choose to do it the color of the bases, what color do you do the crown as the tall cabinet is now up against different colored wall cabinets? If you choose to do the tall cabinet the color of the wall cabinets, now you will have the lower part of the tall cabinet next to the different colored base cabinets and will also need to make the toe kick areas different colors. In short, whenever there is a tall cabinet in the layout that is going to be up against base/wall cabinets, I try to encourage our customers to choose one or the other for the whole kitchen as I feel the tall cabinet ruins the 'color division' a little bit. Again, this is all personal preference, but thought I would just chime in with some feedback. As someone mentioned, there are tons of photos to look at here on Houzz and on the web, so I bet you will make the decision that is right for you! Good luck on your project! Cheers!

You would get more out of the forum if you limit your post to one area at a time so as to keep the discussion from becoming confusing and to get the material covered. And, if you include good photos that show whole, complete scenes. I'd start with the camera where the first photo was taken, but when the light it better. Then aim the camera left, straight and right, taking slightly overlapping photos so we can see how the house fits into its surroundings. (Landscaping is more than what only exists directly in front of the house.) There is barely a sense of "entrance" in the first photo. As that is critical to having a nice front yard/landscape/presentation of the house, that's where I'd begin when better photos show up. It seems like there's a built-in brick planter(s) and they don't look good or workable. I'd get rid of them. I'd answer the question of painting brick in this way: is the brick itself (ignoring other factors) ugly? If the answer is "yes," then paint it. If the answer is "no," then coordinate all other things (paint/roof, etc) to coordinate with the brick in a pleasing way. (I think this especially relates to the entrance which now looks dark and uninviting.)

That's not a good gray - way too dark and "somber". I have a gray kitchen and I love it. It's SW Repose Gray and it's a lovely light color that pops with white woodwork. You're talking about spend a lot of money on a kitchen that has its issues. Can you actually open the door of the refrigerator all the way - the one up against the door? Believe me, I understand about wanting to make it better when one can't afford to gut it. I did that TWICE before I finally got my new kitchen 32 years later!!! No two-tone in this kitchen. You want to keep it neutral and calm. You don't really want to draw attention to anything part of it at this point, so keep it very simple. And don't spend too much on it. It's a functioning kitchen - just save and save until you can get what you want.

Maybe wooden vent hood? I've no idea how much they cost I must say. I looked at the listing as well-I hope it's allright-I think the kitchen does look a bit sterile and a bit ..not like the rest of the house. A bit too.. straightforward if you compare it to the rest? Because the house strives to be more traditional. Maybe what's bothering you is this slight dissonance. It's still slight, one can easily work with it. I think your direction of changing the hardware can be very good one. Not sure about the exact shade but you'll check it against other things there. Maybe softer, curved lines as well. Yes, add color, texture, have fun with accessories..connect it through color etc to the rest of the house..if other light fixtures stay and you like them-I might go for different pendants, not that it's needed but a great way to indulge yourself nevertheless, and relatively affordable and easy. I think everything that will signal "I'm a part of" will be welcome addition. Start small with things you both love and can use-and I think you'll be happy without any big overhaul in this kitchen.
