Kyle, E. pentagona in habitat builds a compact shrub up to 3 m. Cultivated plants can get even larger. In about ten years your plant will suit better to a larger greenhouse than to a windowsill I think. "but give them a big drink at least once a month." Just curious, but is a big drink once a month a good idea? I was under the impression that if you let a plant go completely dry for awhile then flooded it, you'd really risk inducing rot since all the roots would've died back a bit in the interim, whereas you don't get that problem if you're just giving smaller quantities of water or grading-up to more frequent summer watering. On the other hand, you need to thoroughly soak the potting media to actually rinse out the various salts and stuff that accumulate, too. This probably isn't an issue with a totally ideal potting mix although I didn't really have access to turface and fired clay and the like when I did all my repotting this summer. Although, in any case, at least some winter watering seems to cut down on mealies. Also euphorbias seem like they're more tolerant of weird watering schedules than cacti anyway. And euphorbias also seem to be more willing to show you when they're thirsty. I have a way easier time with euphorbias than cacti in general. Can you tell? ;)
