Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Comments (10)When it snows really deep and you go stand outside in the yard it is like the world has gotten taller or somehow closer to you, everything is puffed up. As long as it doesn't bring down the hoopey house roof, which I doubt it will. A nice thin layer of snow or ice makes a wonderful blanket and actually helps keep the inside of the structure warm. Back home on the flat lands it rarely snowed like this - there were always 20 mile an hour winds to blow it sideways. Cold is a lot easier to take when there is no wind. Now I just gotta finish up some work, transfer a bunch of files to my laptop and sneak outta here while no one is looking....See Moresnow covered trees
Comments (10)its a little late now.. to worry about it.. lol ... as noted.. if zone appropriate.. they will be fine.. in fact.. most likely... better off than if exposed to your version of a miserable winter ... INSURE that when the pots are exposed.. that the pot itself receives NO SUN on it.. you do NOT want the roots super-heating.. and thawing.. before the tree above does ... or you will get root rot ... i wouldnt be surprised that in the snow.. they arent a z5 equivalent... most winter problems involve winter sun.. and winter winds.. which you plants were not exposed too .. go figure on that and this presumes.. the snow fell naturally. rather than you piling it on top .. which might cause breakage... good luck ken...See MoreEvergreen & Icycles, Evergreen, Water & Snow,
Comments (3)Very nice! Look in to getting an ND filter. It will let you use those wider apertures and slower shutter speeds on those bright, white sunny days....See MoreYour experience with "continuous not-looking-horrible" plants?
Comments (73)greenhearted, thanks for the comment, it was very considerate. I felt so bad for her and couldn't come up with a single worthwhile suggestion or think of a way to solve it. The photos I posted of her yard were after the transformation & I thought it looked good too, so good in fact I started mass planting many of my plants like she'd done in my ugly problem areas, planting all one kind in groupings like she'd done. I think the problem along with her too rich soil is the amount of rain they've had this year, everything is hugely overgrown, too tall or flopping. Barron was saying the same thing about Arkansas, too much rain. Here in central OKlahoma between those two areas of Kansas and Arkansas where I am relatively close by we are in drought and had a terribly dry summer, mine looks colorless and fried, not overgrown by any stretch. Go figure that one out. Heck even Texas got a lot of rain this summer. The worst effect my sister is dealing with since going prairie and removing the lawn is chiggers. I'd have never even thought of that happening. She said they are grossly thick and she can't get in to work without getting bit (although spraying and wearing long sleeves and pants does help but thats miserable in hot humid weather) or having them fly in her eyes. It sounded like the stuff of nightmares. On top of all that just like NHBabs was telling us, she has duscovered she is very allergic to grasses and breaks out whenever she's around them. What do you say to all that?...See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
