Wodka, Just a word of caution in purchasing chairs for your antique table. We purchased an antique table some 20 odd years ago when we built our house (also had to wait for the house to be completed before pickup). Our friends who are avid antique collectors warned us that truly antique tables generally are shorter than our modern tables and to be careful of chair height when we purchased them. We found antique chairs to go with the table and they also set lower than modern chairs. Our table and chairs are from the 1850's. The table had one leg shorter than the others so we had to put a coaster under it. Then we decided to put coasters under all legs (requiring an extra one under the short leg) to give a little extra height. This was perfect. We would not be able to add chair pads as you would not be able to sit comfortably with your legs under the table. If your table does not have an apron as mine does, you may not be as impacted. The question is this specific dining room set. As has been pointed out, the finish is in bad shape and refinishing furniture is expensive and is probably not worth it for this set which is neither particularly unique or attractive. If one needs functional furniture that doesn't look trashy, then painting it is probably the best and easiest solution. Painted wood furniture isn't my taste although I have seen painted stuff which really is fun and much fresher than the original finish. My friend had her 1920's wing chair with carved arms upholstered in a beautiful contemporary fabric and had the wood painted in a gorgeous cream finish with subtle iridescent over tones. She could have bought a fantastic chair for what she spent but why should she have preserved a nondescript mass produced chair in its original state when the new version is much more attractive and can now go on for another 80 years. I love vintage items and much of my stuff is vintage and I even had a custom sofa and table made that replicated authentic Art Deco. I also had a custom Chinese Deco rug made because I couldn't find a vintage one that combined the colors and patterns I want. I had the two end drawers of my Waterfall bedroom suite turned into night stands because I no longer had use for the vanity as a vanity. However not everything that is old is sacred and needs to be preserved. Some of it can be repurposed to suit individual tastes and needs.

My second comment is everything is priced high right now. I would wait. There is a lot of furniture for sale in every state as the largest move is taking place in the USA   Homes are selling with furniture, people are selling what they do not want to move. Ebay Craig's list Next door Neighbor Chairrish 1st dibs and local shops have a large assortment. Look around you might find something or work with what you have. Prices are starting to settle back down. I think your room is lovely A dining room is where the family will never notice what the colors are, only the day.
