Have any of you purchased carpet stair treads instead of carpeting?
Comments (8)We replaced old ugly red ones with these from overstock. It is a sisal look. I was worried about cats ruining that faster (same texture as their scratch things). These were very inexpensive because I don't trust the cats at all but they have been leaving them alone. They aren't very comfortable bare foot but I like the look enough for the cost. They are nailed in with many tiny nails. This pic really pointed out a paint job is in order! They are shallow steps so they get kicked....See MoreConverting carpeted stairs with false open treads to hardwood.
Comments (2)I think the proper way is to remove the balusters, cover the entire tread and reinstall the balusters. I can't imagine a solution where Bamboo in the middle of a tread looks good butted up against a false tread end....See MoreHow to safely secure carpet stair treads
Comments (1)What does the carpet tread manufacturer suggest? Anything that permanently affixes the carpet to the treads is going to damage the surface (at least on the wood). I personally prefer a properly installed stair runner over carpet treads...but that's me. I do not like hanging my physical well being on a roll of double sided carpet tape from Home Depot (I've met the people who ended up in hospital...the broken bones heal but the head injuries persist). I would leave the carpet treads in the box they came in and bring in a flooring/stair expert to give you a quote on a properly installed stair runner. If the cost is doable, then ship the treads back in their original packaging. Don't even open them....See MoreStair Tread Carpet Recommendations
Comments (2)Hi Patricia, I was just looking through old posts and was reminded of this! For some reason I don't get any notifications for posts! I love the look of a real runner but it's too committal for me at this point. Maybe when the kids and dogs are out of the house someday :). For now it's just about the safety of the dogs :). I ended up getting 2 different stair tread carpet and using this: Super Area Rugs Stair Tread Installation Kit, Securing Adhesive Tape Roll https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EZ8AAAM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Supposedly it won't cause any damage -- and it works great - literally zero slippage and now I feel much better about my dogs going up/down both sets of stairs. Thanks!...See MoreRelated Professionals
