We bought microfiber living room set. What should I do to protect
Comments (1)Microfiber that I've ever worked on cleans wonderfully -- all fabrics should clean that easily. Many fabrics are treated at the mill with fabric protectors. If it's offshore -- all bets are off. Some retailers will treat all upholstered goods before delivery. I hot water extract most stains. The technique on microfiber is to agitate with a soft brush. An extremely soft toothbrush would work really well and may be enough that you can just dry-vac up the debris. Every stain has certain cleaners it responds to. I have about 25 different cleaning solutions I use to spot clean. For "Unknown" stains, I just have to start with the most likely and work my way through until one of them works. Usually I can tell by looking, but sometimes I get fooled -- blood can look like chocolate can look like rust. But they take different cleaners. A couple of things that don't do well with microfiber * hot - cigarette embers, incense and candles can all melt the fabric * claws -- puncture wounds, e.g., from cat claws, don't heal up the way they would in woven fabrics. Here is a link that might be useful: sample cleaning...See MoreWhat should I do w/Living Room
Comments (12)Please could you show us a few more angles of the room. This may sound a bit odd but could you stand on a short stool (be safe! of course!) and shoot a few photos down into the room. Put down the blind -- and turn on the lights (and lamps) .... Sorry -- but a few more shots may help everyone to see your whole room and help out! How about a medium gold color (although I do love olive -- and your room is lovely and bright so a deeper tone (of any color!) would work so well! Of course -- you may want to consider painting both the family room AND the kitchen to match ......JUST a thought -- really!!!! O.K. How about Benjamin Moore "Deer Path" (#CC-1047) -- a tan with gold undertones that might work well with the tones in the wonderful fireplace ...... but I'm not sure of the tones of the carpeting .... Yes -- so far I would recommend placing the TV in the corner by the left-hand window -- and then floating the furniture to face the fireplace (and the TV) We did that in our tiny living room -- and covered up a bit of the window BUT it really worked out so well for us! OR -- if you find a flat-to-the-wall entertainment unit (there are literally dozens on most local CRiags Lists!) that would fill up the wall (where the sofa now sits) -- and then float the funiture to face it!...See MoreShould I get this rug for our living room?
Comments (29)Yep, you found the mistake, all right. Thanks for the sweet words about the dogs, we're quite fond of them. There is a horizontal blind on the picture window. I've been biding my time till DH can get the curtain rods up so that blind can come down. I agree Torrey. The curtains will be hung higher when that happens, and stacked to the sides. Thank you for the code NSM! DH wasn't totally convinced about the 1st rug I posted. And, I'm concerned that it's reading peachy on my screen. Yayagal, thank you for the suggestion. You know, that's sorta funny that you found that rug. I was looking at the same rug in a different color way this morning! Safavieh Antiquity in Blue/Gray This is another one that I've eyeballed online for a while now, but now I'm not so sure. cottagey rug I'm off to hang dining room curtains. DH got our bay window rods finished last night. Yippeee! : )...See MoreHELP! How should we set up our new living room?
Comments (1)To break up all the linearity and big boxy features think of curves. Looks like you have room for a pair of curved sofas and some theater chairs. Maybe a cocktail corner by the windows. Your large empty wall could use a big shot of color. Pick up that color in rugs and pillows....See Moredecoenthusiaste
