I need to get plant lamps, and have no clue what I need
Comments (12)I thought I read a back post by H. that if you have proper cfl's (45 watt and up) that they should be on a 12 hour run? Flourescents need the longer run??? Moby this is a complete list of what you will need: - CFL's- 42 watt actual or higher- see Howard's specs (link for a good online source below) - Clamp lamps with the big silver 10-12" dish (see pic below). I prefer the ceramic sockets. Mine are made by "Commercial Electric" and have an 8' cord - Timer - Power strip or surge protector- make sure the cord is long enough. Don't use a regular extension cord. get the kind that has a built in breaker - Something to attach the clamp lamps to- depending on where you want to put them. I like the ceiling or the wall so I get plumber brackets from HD. They are about 35¢ each (see pic below) - screws and plastic sleeves to screw in the plumber's brackets - Tape or twist ties - for the cords - I partially and loosely cover my power cord with a plastic bag if it's close to my grow area. Water and electric don't mix. I cut the bag in 1/2 and tape the plastic to the part that might get water on it. You don't want to put the power strip or cords inside a plastic bag. Looks more complicated than it is. It's very easy to set up. Clara Here is a link that might be useful: cfl source...See MoreNeed lamp shade help!
Comments (10)Nope Marigene, all you need is an up to date shade to make the world of difference in a lamp. To me the lamp itself never goes out of style, just needs the latest in shade shapes. Artlover is right. A bit larger one would work better too. If you can't find one in the right color you can either cover it or buy a blank adhesive shade made to recover. Comments (4)Drilling holes into glass can be dicey if you are inexperienced and hanging all the weight of the piece from the holes in the glass is not advised. You don't want to hang something that potentially heavy from a "thin leather strap" . . frame it and reinforce the framing to keep it (and your family) safe. Of course you can just glue and go if you want grout bleed. You need to seal the edges of the stained glass to the substrate glass in order to avoid grout bleed. Or don't grout. It's up to you....See Morelamp shade help, please
Comments (14)Hi! I just wanted yall to know I wasn't fishing for compliments or anything.....the more I look at professional interiors the more insecure I feel about my abilities to create a beautiful & comfy space. This room has ended up being "left overs" from a bigger house & I am really having a hard time pulling it together. I don't know if I am going for soft, neutral & serene or more dressy classic & a little bold????? So, it seems it is mixed about light/dark on the lamps?? Chandelier is too small but I am willing to live with it. I have never had crystals hanging & I love the way they look lit up. Change the shades???? Red, I will take a pic of 2 skinny buffet lamps I have in my DR tomorrow & see what yall think. Musical lamps at my house right now!! Yes, PB is very simliar to WT - I used PB on all my trim in my previous house & foyer & hall. Lovely color and your den looks gorgeous. You have so many beautiful pieces of furniture. Oh, and I saw your post about which picture & agree about the darling portrait of your daughter - esp. since your mother did it. It does not get any more special than that:) Shee, the 2 bird plaques I got at an antique shop. Your entry is really pulling together. I like very much your new lamps & bunny planter. Good job, girl:) Valzone, I would love to see your lamp. I really should have taken a pic of the shade they had on this one - it was HUMONGOUS(spel??)) I think I am going to look at Aidan Gray lamps to get some ideas, too. I have moved so much stuff around in here - you should see all the holes in the walls!! Until I found this forum - I didn't really think as much about my home decor. Good & bad. Smiles:)...See Morejay06
