I have never hiked it. It is really in the absolute middle of nowhere. I mean I have driven to Joggins before and that was really out-of-the-way and that is an hour before Cape Chignecto. I’m not sure if you were familiar with the bay of Fundy, it is beautiful, the tides are extremely high and can be dangerous – – important not to be caught isolated on the beach at low tide turning to high Tide. Just requires planning if you were hiking along the shoreline. They have to do rescues by helicopter every once in a while. The water is quite frigid although I have fond memories of swimming in it as a child.

i probably hear the most about day hikes so I’m probably not your gal, but when I hear people talking about hiking it’s generally Kejimkujik national park (extensive back country but no shoreline), Cape Split (day hike only but gorgeous) and CB highlands (only one back country campground, Bonus angry moose and coyotes).

My friend said it took him “a few” days and if you are experienced hikers it is a very rewarding hike.

I remember there is a purportedly amazing restaurant in Advocate Harbour - Wild Caraway-if you are foodies! Also worth it in the area: Joggins fossil cliffs. Similarly, the nearby Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro.

The Springhill Miner’s Museum was very memorable for me as well. You can tour a mine 300ft underground. Springhill was the site of a disastrous bump in 1958 killing 75 men, subject of the song Ballad of Springhill (which most Nova Scotians can sing alongside of Farewell to Nova Scotia and Barrett’s Privateers).

Thanks Robo. I had the Geological Museum on our radar! Assuming this ends up being the selected hike, we are thinking we will will drive up through NB and then home via CAT to make a loop.

Some things to consider:

its a loooong drive from advocate harbour, even on the highways it’s 5.5h. Unless you like long driving days I would recommend maybe splitting the drive into 2 days so you can take the secondary highways.

The recommended route is down to Halifax and then back up to Wolfville, Digby and on to Yarmouth. You could also consider going cross country on the other side of the minas basin from advocate harbour (Noel shore) - some lovely scenery and only adds a half hour. There is also some lovely scenery from wolfville to digby on the secondary highways. The french shore from digby to Yarmouth is also very charming. I prefer this route to driving along the south shore (Halifax, Lunenburg route)

You have to take the cat early in the morning in Yarmouth which necessitates a stay in Yarmouth the night before. Avoid the Rodd, go for B&Bs. They are familiar with the ferry and will have you fed and out the door in good time. Don’t forget to add loading/unloading/customs time to your trip estimates.

i would pack food for the cat. I got seasick on it but I am prone to that.

It’s not a money saver and it wouldn’t be a timesaver for you, so I would only do it if you really felt like a road trip.
