Isn't that an old issue? I don't think it's an issue with the current ones?

I am pretty sure this is a current issue as well. Try looking up wolf blue enamel chipping threads and see when the latest comments were posted.

What is driving you to a wolf versus Miele from a feature/cost perspective? I went miele for my CSO so went MIele for my speed and 30” convection oven. The Wolf M series was still not out and decided not to chance it on a new line with a short time in Market. From what I have read the Chipping still exists but not sure to what extent but you do not hear this about the Miele. Why risk it?

Sad but has been going on for 10 years.

I have an Electrolux and functionally it has been a great oven. It is well thought out and there is high utility in the settings. Sadly it has had problems with the blue enamel and the computer boards. The blue has been ok since it was replaced but I don't run the self clean. Debating whether I should replace the display and computer board or get a Bosch 800 series which is missing a few functions but seems to be pretty good. Also considering Gaggenau or Miele.

Thanks for the response folks, I knew I could depend on fellow houzz peeps. I emailed Wolf earlier today, just to see if they’ll give a canned response-even if its just another register of concern on their product. I didn’t realize this has been going on for 10 fricking years!

I recently opened up my living room to the kitchen and in the selection process of appliances have noted the “fit & finish” of appliances as well as their functions. Wolf has nice quality gas cooktops, and a versatile selection of styles in their ovens. Miele has a beautiful ove . I realize that to most people who cook a lot, function is more important than style and I appreciate that. After all-how useful can an oven be that blows hazardous materials into your food.

My local dealer has begun to carry Miele and it too, is a beautiful product with a sterling reputation for quality. I was told that they are German engineering and that they design, assemble, and produce their own components. They have also upped their game on quality of oven liner enamel. The Miele and Wolf prices were similar. I just liked the detailing of the Wolf gas cooktop over Mieles gas cooktop, (Kim, do you have gas or induction cooktop?) I’d prefer not to mix brands initially. I will be able to see all of my appliances from the living room.

This will be my last kitchen redo, as I have recently retired, so I want quality, service, versatility, and looks.

I cant imagine what business reason there would be for Wolf to not simply change the enamel, unless it’s getting people on the hook for ongoing investment after warranty expiration. Their reputation is on the line over this.

I can’t get service on Miele. I had no problems with my 48” Wolf df range which I had for over a decade in my last house. Service is my biggest concern...and i can get service on Wolf and SZ.

I put a Wolf CSO and the m series wall oven in my new house. Love both so far. I may not use self clean...will see.

i had the Gagg CSO in my last house and it needed service as we were selling the house. Impossible. So chose the Wolf this time. The Wolf CSO has far exceeded my expectations.

hoping I won’t have the chipping problem on the M. But I didn’t in the past, so fingers crossed.

ETA...also loving my 36” Wolf rangetop with 6 burners. Had the griddle last time and do not miss it.

Like you this is my “last” kitchen and am too retired. I see no reason not to mix brands to get what you want. Particularly cooktop and oven. I have Miele Convection/Speed/CSO ovens, wolf induction cooktop, Zephyr hood, Miele dishwasher, Subzero FRidge and Freezer integrated columns and a liebherr bar fridge in my open concept kitchen/eating space/great room. No issues. Some are paneled some are not. If I was going with a gas cooktop I would go with either Thermador or Wolf. as I need a low simmer (initial reaon I started looking at induction). From reading comments on this forum it seems gas cooktops may be MIele’s “weak link”. There is no connection appearance wise between an oven and a cooktop IMHO. Get what works for you. EIther will look great!

Deciding about getting Wolf ovens and searching these threads. Yes, there still seem to be complaints and Wolf now mentions it in their FAQs, putting consumers on notice of the problem. But, oddly, when I look at the BBB website, I find Wolf with an A+ rating and only 3 complaints (none about this) and Miele with a B rating and 44 complaints. Go figure....

Dots...I also had a problem with service on my Miele dw in my last house. my Wolf appliances in that house performed flawlessly and the only tiny service issue with my SZ frig was taken care of easily without a hitch. Local, reliable service is priority for me.

so I went all SZ/Wolf in this new house (Bosch DW). I didn’t have the chipping issue with my Wolf range in my last house so I don’t anticipate it with my new Wolf wall oven (fingers crossed) but like you, I don’t intend to use self cleaning either.

I “inherited” a wolf 48” range when we bought our place a couple of years ago. After reading all the horror stories about the self cleaning issues I finally relented and cleaned both ovens during quarantine this spring. They came out spotless.

I am having an issue with chipping in my 48" range. Both ovens are chipping and have only been cleaned once. Both ovens have had very little use. Wolf said they would share the cost of replacement. They are still under warranty but consider the chipping a cosmetic issue. I strongly disagree. I really don't want to pay for new lining every few years. Anyone have help what my next step should be?

They are very inconsistent in how they treat people. It takes haggling back and forth. They always try to tell people that it is cosmetic. Glass shards around food is not a cosmetic issue. People have cut their hands on these shards. They should be replacing the range but not sure I would want the new one with corner fans. They used to do that if you were in the two year full warranty. They should at least pay for the whole replacement. They seem to be giving people a lot more trouble with this now when they are in the full warranty.

i dont know if it will fix it. This has been an ongoing problem for more than 10 years. many people have been through multiple ranges. You would not be getting any type of newly formulated enamel. you might be out of warranty when it chips again You might contact your dealer who has more leverage than you do and see if you can get your money back.

Love my Wolf BUT had the internal cavity replaced bc of chips $$$ and it’s happened again! I treat it with care

Wolf finally agreed to replace both cavities. It took several phone calls and speaking with different people. My oven is within the two years. They claim this is unusual. The repair is $950 plus parts. I definitely don't want to pay for this in the future. AND I really don't want to hand clean these ovens forever. Looking for a long term solution, legally, if necessary.

we bought a wolf dual stove last year and finally ran the self clean- the bottom of the oven is totalky ruined and they want $1900 to fix it. never buy Wolf

Had a spill in my Blue porcelain Wolf oven. Not a big one, nothing special. Took a wet paper towel wirh a little dish soap to wipe it up. A big piece of blue just wiped off! I dont use the self clean

I can't believe this is still happening. What reason could they possibly have to keep this same darn enamel formula??? It's clearly lacking quality control and WOLF caters to high end homes with high expectations. I can't wrap my head around it. Why not just get rid of it all together and move on?

Any ideas on what their Motive is?
