4 or 6 in recessed lighting in kitchen reno?
Comments (1)4" can lights are somehat more stylish while 6" cans are easier for replacing the lamps. The install costs are the same. 4" cans may cost more than the 6" cans. Cree CR4 or 6 lamps are the best led lights.- good spread of light, long life, dimming performance is good... No trim ring required since it is attached. Comments (0)We are remodeling a kitchen and need help. I appreciate your input. The kitchen is 8 x 12 L shaped kitchen with a 8' peninsula. The refrigerator (36 ") is on the 8' wall, and sink and oven are on the 12' wall. At the peninsula (across from the 8' wall)' we will have two pendants. The ceiling is 7 1/2 ft. My question is: - how many LED recessed lights do we need - 4 or 5 inch, I prefer 4 but do not know if these will be sufficient - preferred brand - how much over 24 inch sink - how to line these up given the refrigerator is not counter depth Should the aim in the kitchen also be 36" from the wall to avoid shade? How then does one plan light over countertops? We will have under cabinet lights, but do not know if these will be enough for counter light. In the past, we had 4 6" recessed lights and a center fixture and the 6" were too bright. We are also adding 4 LED lights to a 12x9 bedroom, 7 1/2 ft ceiling. Again, 4 or 6, and 36" from wall? Thank you very much for your thoughts....See MoreMixing 4" and 6" recessed lights
Comments (9)No worries, @Lyn Nielson, my fault for misinterpreting. I've been reading a lot of threads here with a lot of strong opinions and "rules" being thrown around so I was preparing for that. :) Yes, I do have the option to add a J-box with a blank over it for a light fixture and that's what I'm doing for the pendants over the island. The other thing that put me off to adding a chandelier in the dining area is because it's also relatively close to where the pendants would be. So, as much as I'm not a fan of a chandelier in a small area, I feel like it'll feel even busier with yet another thing dangling from the ceiling in a relatively close space. That's what I'm trying to avoid by considering 4" cans in the great room, but am wondering if it'll be a little off since the rest of lights will be 6"....See Morewhat size recessed lights are you using?
Comments (8)6" is the default recessed fixture that most builders and electricians will install. It is efficient cost-wise compared with installation (their concerns). I'd expect them to be placed in certain areas or spacing based on that 6" size, so by just switching those existing locations to a 4" fixture may not be adequate. It just depends on the lighting concept you are trying to achieve with each space, and at the same time I also wouldn't expect a builder or electrician to have followed any....See More- 5 years ago
