Hope I can chime in - although I'm not totally comfortable commenting as the pictures are pretty grainy on my screen. I wonder if what is really bothering you is more of a problem with scale and weight/balance. First I should say your curtains are lovely and your sofa and chair with ottoman look so comfy. The table as other's have pointed out did not look or function well behind the chair. However, the chair is rather delicate, and it and the stand next to it are both leggy. This may be partially what is bothering you. Additionally, the lovely picture behind the chair almost overpowers the chair. It's hard to tell from the photos but it might work better if the painting were lowered down to the height of the etegere. I would soften the look on the etegere by substituting the topmost items with one soft and low mounding form like an ivy with some trailing stems...the weight would help balance the heavyish lovely valances, and provide needed contrast to the multiple verticle items on the various shelves. The inside top shelf might look even better empty with the low plant on the next shelf down... Then something to connect the chair to the etegere and painting, which could be a floor plant or a floor vase with some fronds or something with some height but not too cluttery on the floor against the wall to contrast between the stick legs of the stand and the chair, with substantial enough base/weight- not a stick base - but not enough to overpower the delicate chair. Depending on the height of the shelf, you may be able to have a cleared space on the glass near the chair to serve as the place to put a drink and plate and snacks. It might possibly work to substitute a small fat lamp sitting on the shelf for the separate table and table lamp that may just clutter up the room more. Just my thoughts. Whatever you do, have fun! You have such a lovely space!!

Just to help clarify. Hopefully. The console table in front of the window IS the table that's in the close up picture. The round table is what the brass lamp is currently sitting on. Here's some room shots. That close up pic is why I didn't think it would look nice in front of the window...because it's all like big table, big lamp. Squirrel - IRL the cream shaded lamp is actually gold that's why I was asking. It does look more cream in these pics. Lol the hybrid lamp! The candle covers, I can't believe I'm admitting this but they're rolled up pieces of poster board! The size of the hole is larger than any candle sleeves I can find anywhere. I actually did buy some fat candles at michaels to stick in but it seemed if the cats even ran by the table fast they'd fall over. It was driving me crazy. The poster board was my alternative for now. (See why I should've bought that ebay lamp!) :) Bronwynsmom - I like those lamps. Part of my dilemma is if I don't use that brass lamp in the LR I don't know where else I could use it. And I really like it. Where do you put something that tall?

Palimpsest, the third photo shows the sofa in the most true color rendering. It doesn't really have any blue in it, but I still don't think it works well with the more olive/pea green walls. DH likes the wall color, so I'm torn about painting it. But I think something a bit more neutral and brighter would help. Anele, I like your idea of the round table between the two beige chairs. I've been on the searching for something that would work to make that a nice little grouping on the end under the window. I'm not sure I want more heavy wood furniture in the room, so I'm trying to decide if something light and airy with metal and glass would be best or a fabric-covered decorator's table. Until then, the sofa table will probably stay under the window, but I'm thinking of using it as a TV console if we get a flat panel TV and removing the deep antique cabinet that currently houses the TV. Graywings, I think you're definitely right about stained glass cutting down on the light. I would love to add track lighting, but the wiring is still the problem. I don't really care for the usual piano lamps. That's why the little torchiere pair appealed to me. I do want to hang some wall art over the piano also, as the lack of height between the lamps seems odd. But it sounds like you don't like the looks of them at all? If the proportions are wrong for the piano, maybe I can use one on a (future) round table between the beige chairs and one on the TV console.

I'm happy to announce the mirror is ON THE WALL!! 6" from buffet. Yay! I'll have to post pictures tomorrow. I'd also like to say I'm sorry for not listening sooner about hanging the mirror first. 30" I think is way too tall. If put in the middle it fights with the hangy thing. I'm thinking the lamp will need to be in the lower 20" range. I have pictures of this as well. Maybe now that I have a better idea of height it won't be as difficult. Val - I do see the similarities between the inspiration pic and my foyer. Good job Jim!! Reno - I hear ya about picking something less formal to pair with formal but since I'm drawn to the frou/frill I have a hard time (obviously) picturing what would look good. Paint Chips - I like the size and style of that lamp. I do like palm trees but personally am not feeling them for in the foyer. My computer is starting to act weird but I'll def. check them out more tomorrow. Picking a lamp is one thing but then what else do I put on it!? Oh my.. I do have two pretty candle holders (different heights but matching) that I don't have a home for. They twist up to the top and have feet things on the bottom (remember I like things with little feet) but they're dark brown.
