Will this Emerald Green Arborvitae ever look good again?
Comments (16)I have to backtrack a little and explain that when I planted the first set of trees, I was a COMPLETE newbie. I did not even have the soaker hose down at that point. I was watering them by hand about once a week thinking that would be enough. The soaker hose is that flat fabric kind and I've got two of them connected to a "Y" at the edge of my house...one length that goes down the side of the house is 25 feet, the other length goes toward the yard 50 feet. Together they make a 75 foot run and I read that a length under 100 feet should not be an issue where equal pressure is concerned...am I wrong? There is no "incline" along the length where the water ever has to go uphill, that is an optical illusion. From where the water enters the hose it only goes downhill slightly. I've been using this soaker hose all summer and it seems to do the job well, although I had to use it every day since I did not have time to put mulch down until this fall. I am thinking the reason the first batch died was from obvious lack of water before going into winter and then drying out by spring. Also not having mulch might have been a factor since we got down to -5 last winter. I have a hunch that the drying winds knocked out most of them, since my few survivors were the ones next to the house where they are somewhat protected. Which leads me to another question... What do you think of Wilt-Pruf? Could I prevent some dessication by using it? I was going to go with burlap but that is an awful lot that I would need to wrap...do these even need protection from wind if they get enough water before winter? I think in the spring I will move the one arb with the dead branch to the end of the line and replace it so I can keep the height I have going in that area (I need it there! I don't think want a window in my hedge..haha)....See MoreDoes my laundry need to match my kitchen??
Comments (11)Yea, if I go green it'll definitly be a sage, not the apple or lime that I desire :( I just said it's what I'd love to do. But, I know it would be too much. Nothing else in the house is that bold. Well, wait. There's the horrid bright blue in the kid's bath. And the bright red bedroom, lol. But, still. It'd be too much. The counters are going to be some kind of black, probably more laminate. And the living room is Lenox Tan. I guess I could use that??? But, it's not my favorite color in the house. LOL Val, I've been known to think of more insane ideas :) Guess I forgot the word "room", hehehe. And Patricia, I agree it'd probably be best to wait for everything else to be finished. But, I just get so bored and inpatient during the wk. Waiting for the weekend, to crack my whip and have dh do all the projects I need him to do. I guess I sort of want the pride of doing something all on my own, ya know? I'd love to get it painted, and decorated one day and surprise him when he got home :) He'd not only love anything I did, he'd love that he didn't have to do any of it, lol. I really just want something fun in there. I'd do some kind of paint treatment if I knew how. Some fun stripes or something :)...See MoreCosta Esmerelda--does it read green or gray?
Comments (13)I just put a deposit on CE. When I see it in the daylight at the granite yard it seems very green to me. In pictures and at home laying horizontal it feels more green grey, which is what I want. Mine has a lot of movement, DH says it feels like your looking into space. And it has a lot of black in it too. I'm so excited, especially after seeing gglks kitchen pictures. Demo started yesterday....soon enough I'll have pictures too!! Comments (50)I'm pretty sure the real reason (as opposed to it just being about my superior tastes, lol) that the mister defers questions on all decor and furnishing matters to me, is so he won't have to disappear for an undetermined length of time like the OP's husband. ;) The rug thing has always been a bit confusing to me when the house has what looks like lovely hardwood flooring - rugs cover that up! Unless it's a basement, in which case I totally get wanting to be able to use the space during the winter and not freezing in the process, therefore a rug if not carpet is needed. I can't tell if the curtains are sheers? Honestly I'm more of a 'put blinds up' for windows kind of gal, if the windows require covering for privacy (don't want to give the neighbors a show or anything, lol). Window coverings also help protect darker upholstery from fading due to sun exposure, and to a lesser extent the same goes for noticeable fade and discoloration of lighter colors. Everyone loves a room with lots of big windows providing natural light, all I can think of is what their utility bills during the summer must be like and that they probably don't have a sapphire blue velvet sofa they're anxious to keep from fading and vacuum religiously despite the utilization of a throw blanket strategy to win the war against dog fur....See MoreRelated Professionals
