AHHH.. the lighting debate/issue.. I wish I had some great answer for you, but as you know I am struggling with this myself and continue to struggle. However, I don't think it will be too much/ "visually cluttered" as you said, as long as the lights correspond well with each other and don't block the flow of the room. I am thinking of just getting a plain old chandy (with the candles exposed -not sure if that is the technical way to describe) so it is not blocking the flow of the view to the family room. Recently i visited a local lighting store.. I showed the lighting"expert" who also said she is an interior decorator my pictures of my space. She said she couldn't get an adequate view of the space, the light in question- that big rectangular boat we are removing0, but from what she could see,she didn't feel it was blocking the flow of the room rather creating another "layer" to the room.. Obviously, due to the size of the fixture and location of it, I disagree b/c i do feel it is blocking it, however, I did get what she was saying about adding another visual layer to the room. So to answer your question, I guess my feeling is as long as the fixtures dont' compete with each other, it would just be another "layer" to the room..B When you do figure out your fixtures.. let me know.. maybe you can help me finally figure it all out!!! My professional opinion is don't spray it. There are a couple of options as to your paints. If you have a Michael's near you, they sell little tubes of no-prep metal paint. Some stores stock them in the section where they have model cars. Those are water-based. If you can't find them, get a can of Krylon (or whatever brand is appropriate for metal), carefully spray that into a cup (I just use the cap) and brush it onto the fixture that way. If you get them at Michael's (or similar arts/crafts store they're available in small cans). Pick up a couple of artist's brushes, and some blue tape, too. HD sells little cans of Rustoleum, which will also work. You can use an acrylic since the fixture won't be touched. If you do that, don't put it on too thick. I'm fairly certain you can't remove the glass (although yours may be different). Gently stroke the paint on, avoiding that flatness. First do the black, then the brown, exactly as you described it. Take the fixture down to paint, if it's up. And, since you have some space between the metal and the glass, slip a piece of paper underneath while you're working instead of tape. The tape may get stuck in places and don't risk breaking the glass.

The new one should have come with a different adapter.

ali7895, we have an open concept house, and we wish the original owner had installed outlets in the floor, especially since there's one logical place for a sofa, so outlets in that spot would have made sense. We compounded the error ourselves by not installing floor outlets when we replaced the original carpeting with hardwood. We have pot lights that we almost never turn on, as we find overhead lighting in the living room is harsh, so we use table and floor lamps pretty much exclusively. The lamps on either end of our larger sofa of two has an extension cord under the sofa, but the cord still has to travel a few feet to the wall outlet.
