I have no idea what kind of toad it is. I do know that last summer I had a Northern Leopard Frog and an American Toad that were in pond and gardens. I had alot of tadpoles last year but I never seen whether they were toad or frog as I think I brought them in on plants. This year I am getting a first hand experience from the start.

Very nice pixs of frogs n' toads, earlybird! I love our native amphibs here. Oh, and I have a frog story to share.... I had one of those hideous Cuban frogs get into my bedroom one night about two weeks ago. There was a small gap in the screen frame (fixed now) and he somehow squeezed in. I was woken to the sound of a thud on my wall, another thud on the second wall, and then "SPLAT!!!" the little !#$*!!! jumped to the ceiling, missed, and landed on ME. I shall not share the location of the landing zone. *G* This was about one in the morning. I was NOT amused. At all. My cats were going nuts, but I managed to grab the pasty white ghost frog, go out into the back yard barefooted, whereby I almost immediately stepped in dog poop. I flung the hideous thing like a major league outfielder and it landed in the middle of the lake. I hope the fish pecked at him for a really lonnnnnggggg time. Oh I do hate those evil things. When I was down south working for the vet in Jensen Beach we used to tell people to put them (both Cuban and Bufo) in a freezer bag and freeze them to death, so that might be an option for the more squeamish.

hostarox - Most Tricyrtis flowers are small, but some of them have larger-than-usual flowers. Plus, when the plants mature, they get covered up in flowers. Especially the ones that get blooms in the leaf axils. I think it's important to plant toad lilies somewhere that they'll get noticed because you won't notice them from a long distance.

Sahoy: Be sure never to get in the position I am in - ordering 1000 crickets every other week!! I have special 12" tweezers made for picking up crickets. They don't hurt the crickets at all (unless you squeeze too hard!). I only use them to handfeed certain animals, but you could definatly use them to avoid touching the crickets. If I were you, I would go to petsmart once weekly and buy a few dozen crickets. You could keep them in a plastic critter cage and use the tweezers to transfer some to the the frogs' cage daily. When you run out of crickers, you could take a day to clean the cage with hot water and then re-stock your supply. I honestly don't know why everyone makes such a big deal about the crickets. Yeah, they're gross, but it's not rocket science. In my experience, you just need to keep the crickets alive in their cage with plenty of food and water, and then clean and re-stock the cage when you run out. It's that simple. BTW, my firebelly eats up 3/4th inch crickets, has no UV light, and is has been going on strong for 5 years now.
