Is this grasshopper harming my succulents?

Hi everyone! My name is Carmen and I’m a new plant mom. I saw this guy in my backyard, and was wondering if he will harm my plants? How do I get rid of him?

In my opinion, unless you know for a fact that an insect has damaged your plants, it's best to let nature be.

Since you posted on the cactus/succulent forum, I assume that is what your plants are. If you are going to post any further questions here, it would help if you add your gardening zone with your "name" so people can answer in a more informed way. You can find your gardening zone by doing a search "USDA gardening zone" and entering your zip code.

ol'Sally i have heard of chocolate covered insects but never tried one. I have never used pesticides on my fig plants to date so far im lucky last 6 or 7 years with insects and birds not really bothering any of them but that could change. I did use a natural spray this past winter when i had small plants under grow lights and glad thats over and done with no more indoor fig plants for me. But really thats how i use to catch them grasshoppers as a child, now its fun to see my little yorkie hop around when he see's one on patio.

Grasshopper. Locusts are grasshoppers with very bad manners. Grasshoppers are phytophagous (plant eaters) from the time they hatch until they die. They often seem to be present in large enough numbers to be considered a pest, but sometimes you'll only see a few over the entire growing season. Grasshoppers could very well be what's eating your mint leaves, by the way.

I found a grasshopper in my newly-planted Cheyenne pecan tree last fall, munching the leaves at the crown. I'd never seen a grasshopper doing that before. I swatted it, but didn't think much more of it. Now I know.

Cut it in half with a pair of scissors if you like, but I've never seen one chewing on a succulent plant. Snails, slugs, mealybugs, and earwigs are worse threats.
