My Updates - Loretta, Kaneohe, Mystery, etc.
Comments (7)Thanks you guys! I'm really pleased with Loretta - even under not so ideal conditions she's cranking out the blooms! The flowers are very fragrant and I catch a whiff just walking near the plant. I'm not good with scents but to me it's a little more perfumy than classic plumie scent. How's that for a scientific description? I actually got Loretta as part of Gabby's generous gift when I won a contest she had on the MPG forum! She was so sweet she sent me 4 cuttings instead of the original 2 she was giving away. She sent me Loretta, Gina, Gloria Schmidt (which is also growing an inflo!) and Maui Beauty. The MB didn't make it but all the others are thriving!...See MoreUpdate: Painted the foyer/hall area
Comments (18)Oh yeah! I sat on DH's shoulders. . . kidding :P My coworker was nice enough to let me borrow his short stair ladder. I think it's a smaller version of those little giant ladders. I had DH stand behind me while I was using it. The steps on it weren't wide so it was awkward at times trying to bend/twist and be careful not to fall! Since I don't own one of these ladders that's another reason the color needs to stay for now....See MoreLooking for ideas- exterior update to my house
Comments (38)Good morning, Beth, I never answered you. Yes, we are in SoCal. Stucco box land! I didn’t think I could achieve my “dream house” look with *this* house, but I’m hopeful now. I gleaned a lot of inspiration from this feature on Mediterranean farmhouses. https://decomg.com/75-beautiful-rustic-mediterranean-farmhouse-exterior-design/ I can’t tell you how helpful this thread has been...helping me understand what it is exactly I like and don’t like, and what terms get me images of what I do like. It’s not modern that I like necessarily, but minimal, simple. And maybe it’s not black and white, but contrast (I.e. not all beige, ugh!). And I do love farmhouses, but it’s really the metal roofs and industrial lighting. And I absolutely adore black steel windows, but I can get my fix in a front or back door. I’ll be sure to share a photo of what we end up doing. Here are a few of my favorite images from the website I posted. I hope this discussion helps others!...See MoreI'm looking update my house with a cladding or facade. Where to start?
Comments (31)As I mentioned before my property was damaged in a fire and while I was fixing the place I wanted to somehow update the curb appeal. Many of you said the exterior wasn't a pressing issue. I've kinda cooled on the concept of a ventilation curtain cladding but still want some improvements to the front rooftop deck to make it more usable in the hot summer months and to provide some protection from the rain and wind. Do you think a shade structure up there will enhance or detract from the look of the place? I did my best to photoshop it into place. I'd use curtains to soften it and to make it more cabana-like. It is a louvered roof that opens to for more of a slatted trellis. I also need to raise the handrails about 8 inches to make it safe up there so maybe I'd add 1-foot tall ombre sand-blasted panels of glass that gives the effect of white smoke rising around the rails. BTW... I can make that shade structure up there ANY color I want. The frame can be one color and the interior roof with the paddles closed can be another. If I do it I would match the frame to the existing galvanized metal and make the ceiling white. Any input would be appreciated!...See MoreLidia
