The fireplace will be natural brown/red brick. The main concern I have is about the focal point. This family room has two main views. From the kitchen you will be looking at wall with fireplace. When you come from the main entrance, you see the windows. What do you think about painting both walls the same trim color Alabaster (white)? The other two walls will be medium Gray (Pewter Tankard)? The other option is to paint the shiplap on fireplace wall, baseboards and window trim Alabaster and paint the window wall and other walls Pewter Tankard.

Thanks for the advice everyone and Susan Davis for the photo inspirations! benjesbride I know... people seem to have a special kind of dislike for corner fireplaces :) I don't love it but I'm stuck with it. I'd remove it but I think in my area/neighborhood a fireplace would be expected, and it would be very tough to move it. So I have to work with it. I think if we were to get a big tv we'd need to build a space for it in our basement, maybe someday. I don't really want a gigantic one in this space :) Also perhaps it's hard to see from the photos but I don't think the tv would fit on the stairwell wall... just not enough space. We do plan to add shades to the windows, perhaps the wood/bamboo type to add more warmth. In general I feel this room is a bit awkward... but trying to make it work :)

It looks like the best thing is to start with a new 3 seat sofa. Since you have the TV above the mantle, we assume you want your seating positioned that way. Then you will want two chairs to go on the wall directly across from the slider. You also may like a rug? Below you can get a lot of great ideas from designs of ours. Note the furniture, rugs, end tables, pillows, lamps, artwork, window treatments, coffee tables, and various other decor accessories.

Thank you so much for these suggestions. It is an old house with hot water heat, so we can move the radiator a bit in that wall (there is a shallow closet behind this wall with piping) but given the location of a header it will not be perfectly centered which I think may look odd since it will be off center to the TV we will hang there. There is less flexibility to move elsewhere in the room because all other walls are external to the house and there is slab under this portion of the house. 1625 DB - your picture didn’t come through but I’d love to see the cover if you can post again! I found this example online of a low custom cabinet that disguised it well that may work in the space if we decide not to recess.
