Comments (26)JoJo I don't know you yet, but want to help, you can ask Pirate Girl about my credentials, I know this plant well, yes remove the old stuff, and stop misting, water it thoroughly then leave it alone, I hardly water mine in the hot summers, and they flower for me this time of the year. They are winter growers and if you cut them back in October and don't water until then, give them a little fertilizer they will flower for you for Christmas, I have on opening pink right now.I abuse mine all summer, July 15-Oct 15. they can take temps down to 20F/ the grow in Africa on rocky hillsides in the Eastern side of the cape so they really don't like much water and it can actually harm them. Pirate Girl know what I'm talking about, she lives in the East. I live on sthe West Coast and ;; have 25 counting the species that you have. Yours is 'Silver Dollar' and I know the latin name but would need to look up the spelling. The barks are all different which to me is the interesting part of the plant. and helps ID which one it is, the leaves are different sizes and colors. Take a cutting and restart but let it dry out first to seal over, this is a perfect time to do so. Norma...See Morebroken pepper plant..any way to save it?
Comments (5)When I root broken pepper or tomato stems I remove all the buds and pods. Put in bright light, but be careful of direct sunlight. If the plant stays badly wilted and doesn't perk up a little after placing in water then start removing a leaf here and there. Don't be afraid to remove a lot of leaves. Is there a willow (Salix) tree nearby? Smash a handful of small twigs with a hammer and place the twigs in the water. Willow produces a natural rooting hormone. jt...See MoreAny ideas on how to save my black prince succulent?
Comments (20)Paul, I have considered using a mix of just inorganic matter but so far my plants have been alright in my current soil mix that has a bit of coco peat and gardening soil, and a lot of charcoal, perlite and pumice. They're all outdoors with a roof over them so they get full morning sun + no rains (unless there's a storm and winds are crazy) and dry out 1 or 2 days after watering. Once the gardening soil and coco peat finishes I'll try growing some of my plants in just perlite, pumice and charcoal. I dislike the coco peat quite a lot because it seems to compress and lose its airy quality quite quickly. The coco peat and gardening soil was in the succulent mixes i bought when i was a beginner to all this :( but i hate throwing away things that can still be used so i just try to make them work....See MoreHow can we update this? Comments (9)IMO those cabinets and that FP do not belong on the same wall and honestly without seeing the rest of the floor plan I have no idea what is worth spending money on. The lighting and the flooring are definate turnoffs for me. I have no idea of your style and IMO the stone on the FP is the only thing I would not touch in the space but a new mantel would be in order. This is a one space in what appears to be a large home how much do you love it ? If this space is the only one needing help maybe but I am betting the rest is also in need and that can starting spending $$$$$$ to get what you want. You need to decide if this is worth it....See Moretropicofcancer (6b SW-PA)
